Tips on cheap maternity clothes?

Hello all!

First time Mom here and I'm almost 11 weeks now. Not obviously showing yet but my pants are starting to get tight. Everything I've been reading about says to start investing in maternity clothes but they're so expensive!

Do any Momma's who have been through this before have any websites or tips on getting discounted or thrifted maternity clothes?

Re: Tips on cheap maternity clothes?

  • I am only 8 weeks and not showing yet of course, but the bloat has made my work pants very uncomfy! I haven't bought any maternity clothes yet, but to help me get through work comfortably I used some gift cards I had from Christmas to buy myself office clothes in the next size up. I'll just wear them with a belt and keep them loose on days that the bloat is bad. I understand this might not be possible for you depending on your job or other factors, but for the time being I'm just getting slightly larger sizes of normal clothes and will probably rely on loose fitting sundresses for the summer when I'm REALLY showing.

  • Some thrift stores have maternity sections! Oversized dresses are always good but you can’t beat real maternity jeans for comfiness. I have used ThredUp a little in the past with decent results, but I like to try things on beforehand. Also finding moms groups, in person or online local marketplaces, is great because people will declutter after giving birth and might be giving their maternity stuff away.

I’d skip buying a full wardrobe and start with thrifted or second-hand pieces. Local thrift stores, Facebook mom groups, and Poshmark are great for barely worn maternity clothes. I’ve also checked StockX before just to get a sense of pricing and value when buying second-hand, which helped me feel better about deals.
  • Stores like H&M and Zara have a good amount of elastic band dress pants! I had bought some for this season before I got pregnant and I already know they'll work through the bloat stage. Hopefully once I pop it will be nice enough outside for dresses!
  • I just got a haul of pants, work tops, and a swimsuit used on ThredUp. Have seen similar second hand options on FB Marketplace and Poshmark. Mostly in great condition because people don’t wear it very long!
