Hi everyone.
I hope it’s ok to post this here.
Since around 4 weeks (I’m now 6 weeks) I started having palpitations, shortness of breath and generally feeling restlessness all over my body. I ended up at a&e, had an ecg and they just sent me on my way. My GP did some urgent bloods as I was still not feeling well and all seemed ‘normal’ apart from a slightly raised neutrophil (9.5 range is 2-7). The following weekend I ended up at the urgent treatment centre (GP’s at a&e) feeling like a slight UTI, really bad cold night sweats, shivering and shaking. My urine dipstick showed leucocytes and nitrates and I was given 7 days of nitrofurantoin although I did tell the dr I struggle badly with nausea with this abx, but I still gave it a chance because we had limited options (I can’t take amoxicillin).
Fast forward to 5 days after starting the nitro I was feeling worse as the days went on my nausea has been so severe I’ve not been able to leave my bed, cold sweats still happening on and off and generally feeling shivery and just ‘unwell’. I went to a&e (after 111 being less than helpful), and they’ve said they think it’s still a UTI as there was protein and blood this time, and ketones. I begged them to sent it off to grow so they did, and apparently it’s showing in my bloods higher white blood cells and CRP. I just feel so ill. I’m not new to UTI’s but I haven’t had a bad one in a while, is being pregnant probably the cause? I’ve had zero intercourse so it’s baffled me how I’ve got one.
I just feel so ill and it’s really scaring me. I’m worried if these antibs (cefalexine) don’t work, what am I going to do? I feel so incredibly weak and ill and I’m worrying about the fact I’m hardly eating, so the baby isn’t getting the best start from me 😭
They’ve given me patient initiated follow up if things worsen today/tomorrow or over the weekend so I can bypass a&e (when they’re open), up until next Weds, but I’m still worrying.
I suppose I was just looking for some support/reassurance as it all just feels too much feeling so ill and worrying the effects it’s having on the baby/whether these new abx are going to make me worse too, and if they’ll actually work.
Thank you if you’ve read this far ❤️
(I should probably add I’m also chronically ill with ME, had it from a very young age, and POTS, so an infection exacerbates my illnesses badly too. I’m also on steroids for life and I think the fact the doctor forgot to tell me to double my steroid dose hasn’t helped in me feeling so ill too).
Re: Really poorly since pregnancy (6 weeks)
I hope that this gives you some sort of comfort. Sending you positive energy.
Hang in there!
