Waking up screaming

Hi. I’m at my wits end. My 18 month old wakes up SCREAMING very early in the morning. He’s been sleeping in his own crib just fine since he was 9 months old. He goes to sleep fine. Sleeps all night fine. But wakes up at the crack of dawn screaming his lungs out. What do I do? It scares me awake and I’m sure it can’t be good for his nervous system. Any tips or advice is welcome.
