Re: Baby Gear

  • Does anyone have a baby bath tub they really liked? The one we have has been going for 6 years and at this point just need to be replaced. It's very basic, and honestly my babies refused to use it until they were several months old (I think the mesh newborn net thing made DS2 cold so we got rid of it pretty quickly, DD still didn't like it as a tiny tot). We had a blooming bath but I never really liked how my babies fit in that either, they were petite and always slid down a lot. I just feel at a loss for what to get for a new one.

  • We used the Skip Hop Moby bathtub for our first and will be using it again for our second. I like that the netting adjusts from an incline to sitting support. This was a lifesaver for me because I could bathe DS next to our kitchen sink when it became obvious that my body could not handle bathing him in our bathtub post c-section.

  • @midnightatsunset thank you! Did you feel like the net got really cold? The one we had got really cold after getting wet on the parts that weren't submerged in the water.
  • @thescarletmom I don’t think it got too cold. Most of the net was in water. DS as a newborn HATED baths for the first 4-5 months or so but by the time I swapped the net to sitting up he was having a good time. Maybe a cold net was a contributing factor and then it just didn’t matter as much over time? But I feel the mesh material was comfy overall.
  • @thescarletmom I don’t really use a baby tub. I have one that collapses and by the time they use it they are sitting up for the most part. I get in the tub with my babies and we just relax and enjoy a nice soak. They will stay so calm this way.
  • @emeraldcity603 we for the most part did a lot of baths this way with our older 3, but unfortunately our house now has 1 half bath, 2 shower only bathrooms, and only 1 bathroom with a tub, and it's currently not working properly (leaking) and will likely be an expensive fix that is on our back burner with two other working showers. Our only real option will be sink baths, or a baby bathtub we put on the floor of the shower.
  • Does anyone have recommendations for a double stroller? Our current stroller is just a single and I know I’m going to want a double at some point with having two kiddos within a two-year age gap

One thing that was a lifesaver for me with a newborn was the Shark blender. It made purees so quick and easy—just cook veggies or fruit, blend, and freeze in portions. It saved me tons of time when I was exhausted and needed simple, healthy food fast.

Another baby product that helped a lot was the Ergobaby carrier. Having my hands free while still keeping baby close made everyday tasks so much easier, especially when I needed to cook or clean between naps.

  • @midnightatsunset I personally love our uppababy Vista! It's pricy but we got ours very gently used for a good price. We have the uppababy Mesa carseat, but you can buy adaptors for other infant seats. We loved the bassinet attachment for early walks though and used that more than the carseat, or the standard stroller seat can also just be used in a reclined position from pretty early on. I don't know if you plan on being done at 2, but we used ours as a double stroller and then also had the piggyback board attachment for our oldest. My husband is also a really big fan of wagon life though once baby is old enough to sit. We will probably spring for a 4-seater wagon later this year. The one we have currently is just a basic canvas radio flyer wagon, I think the step up from the base model they sell at target. But it definitely doesn't hold more than 2 kids well.

@thescarletmom thanks! I know I see the uppababy around…used would be definitely the direction we go because it is so spendy. We’ve said for a long time that 3 is our wild card - this pregnancy has been tougher than my first and with one somewhat traumatic birth already, this one will possibly tip how I (well, genuinely we) feel about trying for a third.

My step-SIL has a wagon and she loved it for her kiddos. She has also said it can be a bit tricky getting in and out of the car by herself. Have you found that to be an issue?
  • @midnightatsunset I completely get it - our sons are almost 4 years apart because my first birth was just so traumatic. I *loved* 3 (so much we had a 4th lol) but totally understand how difficult pregnancies and trauma can be the deciding factor. Either way my opinion stays the same that it's worth while! We got our Vista when we still thought we were done at 3, so I don't think it's only worth it if you're planning more - we are still using the vista stroller for our 2.5 yo right now! And both nearly-6 and 9.5 yos use the piggyback board still. 6yo will even fight 2yo for the seat if we dont have the double configured 😂 With our graco strollers, the older two grew out of tolerance for them by 6-9 months, so this has been a noticeable difference to us.

I do feel like wagons are a harder maneuver, especially if it's just me. With our 3rd row up our trunk is pretty limited and the wagon is difficult to fit in without obstructing view while driving. They're also generally wider and harder to fit between cars in parking lots, sidewalks, etc. and at least the one we have doesn't have designated storage in it like the under basket of a stroller. So getting it in and out of the car is a hassle with throwing all the junk in and out of it. While I don't hate the wagon by any means, I definitely prefer the stroller and the wagon is my husband's. I'm also a very petite 5'2, while he is 6'5, so I think the control of the wagon is less unwieldy for him!
  • @thescarletmom I’m 5’8” and sometimes struggle with maneuvering so I have a feeling the stroller would be my preference, too based on your details. I also really love walking outside when the weather is nice so a stroller vs a wagon is probably better 🤔

do you like the storage space with your uppababy vista? That’s my biggest complaint with our current stroller so I’m on the lookout this time
  • @midnightatsunset I do! It's unfortunate you have to buy several storage type bits separately (cup holder, snack tray, the hanging organizer caddy for the handle bars) but I feel like the under storage is nice and big! It also has two pockets in the back of the storage caddy that fit big water bottles. Which is nice, because I find the cup holder attachment is really more for like, travel coffee cup sized things than my giant 40 oz stanley. So whenever we are out and about like at a pumpkin patch, my husband and I put our big water bottles down there in the pockets and they don't fall out or slosh around a bunch!

As far as storing in the car too, I also really like that all the seats are easily removable from the frame. So you can fold it up very slim and put the seats next to them (also slim) and it's an easy pop on and off (though you need to be free handed for a second).

I think the food blender is unnecessary. Babyled weaning is the way to go and you don’t need any special tools for it. My babies who had purées first are the pickiest eaters but the ones I did babyled weaning with will eat just about anything.

We got the piper stroller from gladly family that is a single to double. Have only put it together and rolled it around the house but it’s folds nicely and seems good quality. Half the price of the mockingbird for Black Friday
