Seeking Mental Health Advice

Hi! I will be 8 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I usually am a very active go go go type of person and I understand fatigue is to be expected. Since week 6 though, I no longer care to do or find joy in the things I usually love to do! I almost feel like my brain is not my own and just feel nothing like myself. Has anyone experienced this before or currently experiencing this as well? I am worried about antenatal depression.

Re: Seeking Mental Health Advice

  • It can be normal to slow down a little during the 1st trimester because of pregnancy fatigue and nausea. If you think it is more than that definitely mention it to your family doctor and they can make a referral for mental health support. I did not experience this but I had pretty bad post partum depression after my first was born and getting support from the women's mental health department at my local hospital really made a difference.

  • If you feel it's more than just being tired then you should talk to your dr about it.  Though it's normal to struggle to do things in the first trimester. I'm only 5 weeks and just starting to feel the fatigue but in my last pregnancies weeks 7-9 were a struggle to want to do anything but nap. It usually passes by the 2nd trimester.
  • Hi! First I’m sorry to hear you are feeling this way. The first trimester is so hard. I have anxiety and depression and have been on Zoloft my whole pregnancy. It’s definitely been helpful. I have also struggled with the fact that I don’t find joy in the things I used to because I’m so tired! Definitely talk to a doctor. Thank you so much for sharing this 🩵
  • A lot of people don’t realize how much early pregnancy hormones can mess with mood, motivation, and even your sense of identity for a bit. Feeling disconnected from your usual self doesn’t automatically mean antenatal depression, sometimes it’s just the hormone rollercoaster mixed with exhaustion but it’s completely valid that it’s worrying you.
If you’re looking for something gentle to help you unwind and feel a bit more grounded, Relaxing Mama Tea can be really soothing. It’s calming on the nervous system, helps take the edge off that emotional heaviness, and can make evenings feel a little less overwhelming. It’s not a cure, but it can definitely be a comforting part of your day when everything feels “off.”
    Sending you lots of love💕
