2nd Trimester

19 Weeks and Rapid Weight Gain

First time mom here, 35, high risk pregnancy. I'm 19 weeks, 5 days, and I'm experiencing sudden rapid weight gain. I have neen dealing with constipation and gas/bloating, but this is scaring me. I started out my pregnancy at 202 pounds. I'm not sure if I'm in the obese category or not. I very quickly went down to 191 from being unable to eat or drink. I popped back up to 202 within a month after I started pills for nausea. I watched my weight steadily go up. I hit 208 and was feeling pretty bad about the weight gain. Within the last 10 days I've gone up to 215 pounds! I'm terrified I am showing signs of preeclampsia! However...no other symptoms. Blood pressure perfect, no headache, no abdominal pain, no blurry vision and I don't even have any swelling in my ankles/feet, face, or hands. I just don't know where this weight is coming from and I feel like its all sitting somewhere in my belly.

Re: 19 Weeks and Rapid Weight Gain

  • 2nd time mom to be here...if your doctor isn't worried and hasn't said anything then don't stress 😊 focus more on healthy eating and limiting sugar. Going on walks and keeping saturated (and the bad fats low) are overall better for your body and the baby. Come third trimester is when blood pressure spikes (typically). So focus your 2nd trimester on staying active and healthy. If you start having back aches bc of the belly, get a belly band. They really help take the pressure off!

  • Rapid changes can definitely feel scary, especially in a first pregnancy, but it’s reassuring that your vitals are normal and your doctor isn’t concerned. A lot of second-trimester weight shifts come from fluid, digestion, and baby growth. I’ve seen similar wellness and lifestyle discussions shared on xonados tv too, and they often highlight how important it is to focus on overall health rather than just the scale.
