First appointment

Have a lot of you gotten to do your first appointment yet? I found out I was pregnant mid week 4, I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and my first appointment is FINALLY next Monday when I'm 10w 6d. It's felt like a very long waiting game of anxiously having no information, which I know is a common feeling.

For those that have done it - did your partner come with you? Did you get to do the NIPT? Curious to hear how it went for others! Hope everyone's doing well and not feeling too yuck.

Re: First appointment

  • My first in person appt is tomorrow at 12 weeks. I had a phone intake with my midwife about 4-5 weeks ago though to make sure I had all the requisitions I needed.

I didn't go NIPT route as we are watching budget but i went SIPS route that is publically funded here.

I'm a STM and the only appointments MH came with me to was my detailed U/S to find out sex and any late term appointments that happened to be on his day off. Same this pregnancy. Hard for him to take the time off cause is unionized.

  • I had my first appt the day before I hit 10 weeks. My husband came with and I did the NIPT a few days later since I wasn't quite at 10 weeks yet.
  • My first ultrasound was 6.5 weeks, second was 8.5 weeks, and my 11 week one is next week and will do NIPT! I go to all my appointments solo.
  • I had a dating ultrasound at 8w but my intake appointment with my midwives isn't until 12w and I'll have bloodwork and 12w ultrasound just after that. My husband comes to ultrasounds if he happens to be off work, and he will come to the intake appointment but I did the rest alone last pregnancy and same thing this time.
  • I’m due May 31st currently 8w4d & I went to my first ultrasound appointment a couple days ago. My hubby & mom came with me because earlier this year I had a MMC and I was by myself when I found out. So I had my support team with me this time. All went great and now getting the NIPT done in 2 weeks when I’m 10w. Just one little nugget in there with a good strong heart beat 💓we have a 7 year old daughter so we are so excited to finally be expecting baby no. 2 after 6 years of trying naturally!
  • My first appt was 11 weeks. I loved waiting til then so we could see so much more on US and I was able to do all the bloodwork
  • STM, AMA here! 12 weeks tomorrow and doing first prenatal visit!

I had a “pre-prenatal” pregnancy confirmation at 8weeks and got a lil preview ultrasound 🥰 did carrier screen at that visit also (I’m a carrier for cystic fibrosis apparently so hubs is going to get tested tomorrow, send good vibes pls!). Bloodwork taken at preg confirmation visit as well.

Plan to do NIPT tomorrow and I have a scheduled NT scan on Monday.

FWIW I met with a doula virtually and asked if I was missing anything because it was Covid times during my last pregnancy and it all felt very rushed and formulaic. She said nah, aside from health checks on you and the lil growing one, they’re pretty lowkey and that things don’t get intense until third tri. Mostly focus on staying well and managing your symptoms, she said. I do plan to ask questions about exercise and taking magnesium, but I’m taking the approach of, are we on track?, and keeping it at that. Until the third tri anyway.
