3.) ɴᴇxᴛ ᴀᴘᴘᴏɪɴᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ: upcoming cardio US in a week or so. I can’t remember what you call it.
4.) ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ: Boy
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: I was so tired last week and then a few days later people were commenting on how noticeably pregnant I look. So I guess baby grew some. Minor heartburn. My arms keep going numb in my sleep which is annoying.
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: He is kicking so hard I’m feeling it and seeing it on the outside. He is kicking nonstop too. When does he sleep? Every time I wake at night he is kicking and I feel it all day.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): we don’t do the elf on the shelf but we move a star every night and when the kids find it they move the wise men. It’s fun and the kids love it. I also get a new ornament for them every year. I can’t think of any significant traditions we do. Maybe I need to come up with a few.
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: The usual - RLP, heartburn. Sometimes my heart randomly starts racing? That's fun. I don't feel kicks, per se, but I definitely feel movement - the other night, it felt like she was doing a full on gymnastics routine.
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: Still testing positive for bacteria/UTI. I'm on my FOURTH round of antibiotics, and the doctor said if this doesn't kick it, he's sending me to a specialist. I really don't want to go that route - but they're concerned because even though I don't have symptoms, this bacteria can cause kidney problems and pre-term labor.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): I'm a stickler for my food traditions. Even though my husband and I are 100% Jewish, we always do Feast of the Seven Fishes (an Italian/Catholic tradition) on Christmas Eve. We used to go out to restaurants for it, but now we do it at home with our own twist. Christmas Day, we must get Chinese food from this one specific place. New Years' Eve is decadent sushi takeout (vegetable and cooked for me this year - I wanted to make a jaunt to this one place that has AMAZING vegetable sushi, but my daughter's friend has a birthday party that afternoon so it's putting a wrinkle in my sushi plans.)
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: Anyone having a shower for their second+? We had one at our apartment for our first, but it was small-ish because it was still Covid. My mother is giving me s--t about having one for this baby but I feel that every baby deserves to be celebrated! Also this has been a stressful pregnancy so it would be nice to have a little something.
3.) ɴᴇxᴛ ᴀᴘᴘᴏɪɴᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ: anatomy scan on Friday, midwife next week
4.) ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ: girl
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: honestly everything is overshadowed by the nasty cold I've had for 10 days now 🫠 our oldest didn't get it but everyone else did. The little two kicked it in a few days but DH and I just can't get over it.
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: naming the baby is going terribly lol and I'm starting to feel very overwhelmed and mildly frustrated.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): We always want to have big overt holiday traditions, but I'm not sure we really do. The best I can think of is that each kiddo picks out a new ornament every year (the kids rooms have their own trees too), and we do a "Christmas Eve" box (not always on the date because sometimes DS is at his dad's, but as close as we can get). The box has a new Christmas book, movie, blanket, popcorn and special "movie theater" level candy/snacks/drinks. Some years we have added Christmas pj's or slippers as well. And then we all cuddle up on the couch and watch our new Christmas movie!
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: @fifilala516 I for one agree with you. It's always wild to me that people would think having a baby shower is tacky after your first baby. My sisters all live out of town so we will be doing something in January/February to be together and theoretically my office might be throwing me a shower.
@fifilala516 I have had several showers when people have offered. My first 2 were big showers because they were 12 years apart. Then I had a sprinkle for my 4th from friends and a surprise shower from family. A tiny shower with close friends for my 5th. Nothing for the rest because I really don’t need anymore baby things. I don’t think there is anything wrong with celebrating every baby. Tell your mom she doesn’t have to come if she is so bothered by it.
@thescarletmom I am also having difficulty naming this baby. DH doesn’t like anything I like and everything he likes I have a relative or friend with that name already. Four of the names on his list are the names of cousins of mine. I don’t like anything that can easily be shortened to a nickname so I veto those.
@emeraldcity603 my husband and I are having similar sufferings. We just don't have the same taste in names at all, and he feels like I've "chosen" our other kids names since we ended up going with a name that I suggested (he swears he is not saying he doesn't like their names). So he wants me to go along with one of his now but I just truly don't like any of them 🫣 I have a name or two I really love that he just doesn't and vice versa, but obviously we don't want to "settle" for a name we don't actually like.
3.) ɴᴇxᴛ ᴀᴘᴘᴏɪɴᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ: dec 1st, glucose test before then but instill need to schedule it
4.) ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ: girl
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: mild heartburn but nothing crazy
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: we have just had a really great couple weeks. I am feeling so much better, I'm able to get stuff done - I finally assembled the bookshelves that have been sitting in boxes in my living room for weeks - and I went out with some girlfriends on Saturday to watch one of the Olympic qualifiers for pairs figure skating which was so fun.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): What are some of your family holiday traditions? This will actually be our first Christmas at home since 2020 so we don't really have any traditions. My family always does skating then open one gift Christmas Eve and it was always pj's and then we watched the Muppet Christmas carol but my husband's family shockingly has no traditions. None. There's certain foods and cookies he likes around Christmas that they often had as kids (typical turkey, stuffing, etc, and one specific type of buns I make him now) but nothing else really. My in laws are odd people, I genuinely hate going to visit especially at Christmas (we alternate, this is technically my in laws year but I work dec 24th and have told them in no uncertain terms I will not cart my toddler around to see people on Christmas day. If they care that much they can come to us. This has thus far been ignored by my MIL)
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: @fifilala516 I'm doing a sprinkle for this baby. It's tea party themed and I'm very excited. I had bad prenatal depression and anxiety with my first and I struggled to be excited about much or anything really so I wanted one. I've asked people not to bring gifts though as we don't really need any stuff and I'm very sure my mom is already going overboard on the little girl clothes. But we are doing a raffle draw for a basket of goodies for people who bring a pack of diapers or wipes.
@thescarletmom we are also struggling with names but the opposite issue, we like too many and can't narrow it down. With our first we could not agree on a single name and this time we have 6 so far.
@thescarletmom I am not one to budge on a name so if I don’t like it we will have to come up with new options. My mil told me she let my FIL choose their one and only biological child’s (they have many adopted children and my FIL adopted my husband because his dad wasn’t in the picture) and she gave zero input. I would not be able to do that.
@lizdiane456 my mil messaged me all day this past week about Christmas. She asked several times, in different ways, if we would be there for Christmas. I told her no ever time. Then she asked if I wanted to join the gift exchange. I told her not for the kids. That I don’t mind buying for everyone and actually already have some things but I can’t handle individual gifts from everyone for each kid. That is just too much stuff. Where is it all going to go? I don’t think she liked that but I was firm about it. I’m glad you’re setting a firm boundary with your in-laws.
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: congestion and coughing from a cold (ugh), some mild cramping and RLP. I am for sure feeling baby move at least a little every day which is great (even though it feels like I'm being kicked in the cervix a lot lol)
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: DS still has an extremely runny nose, so he is going through like 3 drool bibs a day and I feel I am constantly chasing him to wipe his nose. Because I am also still kind of managing my own symptoms, we haven't been going out for activities as much and that really impacts DS's mood. He just loves to be outside and MOVE and explore so if we're cooped up inside our house all day we experience more tantrums.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): What are some of your family holiday traditions? Honestly...we don't really have traditions. Our main since we got married is spending Christmas Eve with my family and then Christmas day with my in-laws. DH and I just always figured we would start traditions once kiddos were old enough to actually remember them, because I am just not the kind of person to put a lot of work and effort into something that only I will remember. At least, not for this. I'm just not that invested in holiday memories for my own sake, I guess.
@thescarletmom I LOVE the idea for your family's tradition. Having a special Family Christmas movie night gift sounds like something I could really get behind.
@lizdiane456 I guess we're just as weird as your DH lol.
Thoughts and prayers for everyone holding the line with boundaries and in-laws. I lucked out with my in-laws (they're the people I really want to hang out with for holidays). My family is sometimes the issue courtesy of my father and to some degree my mom. He says he's easy-going and so does my mom, but there is just so much trauma wrapped up from holidays past that planning holidays with my family often feels stressful for me.
fifilala516 In my circles, having a shower for a second baby isn't common unless there's a big gap between bubs (maybe a sprinkle if baby #2 is a different gender). But you deserve to have something to celebrate and look forward to!
@midnightatsunset it's really fun! Last year we had it on the 22 or 23 because DS was at bio dads for the 24th, so our neighbors we are good friends with came over with their daughter too! The kids really love it, and over time you build up a good christmas book/movie collection for the next seasons!
@midnightatsunset We don’t have much to do with my family. They are extremely toxic unfortunately. My in-laws are nice but my MIL likes to step on boundaries. She does it less with me because I have set firm boundaries in the past but they still do a lot of things that make me cringe.
@midnightatsunset@emeraldcity603 I'll add myself to the "my family is worse than my in laws" list. We rarely see my family. My MIL is extremely laid back and I don't have a ton of issues with crossing boundaries with them like I do my family. But my FIL and his mom annoy me half to death. A few years ago FIL put "coal" in my 4yo's stocking at their house because he thought it would be a funny joke to tell him that he was bad. He was lucky he survived that Christmas 😒 I'm also not looking forward to the family finding out this baby is a girl because DHs family is weeeeeeird about girls. I guess my SIL (she's 14) was the first girl born in the family in 3 or 4 generations. So they were... let's say not pleased, that we had two boys first and weren't open about our family planning and whether or not we wanted more kids beyond to say we would not "try for a girl". Grandma treats the kids differently and talks all about how "girls are just so much gentler and less mischief" as though she has literally never met our daughter, the human tornado.
@thescarletmom My boys try to kill themselves and destroy my house. 😅 My girls are so laid back and calm. Sassy? Absolutely! Especially my younger daughter who is basically a copy and paste of me. My boys are super snuggly and affectionate though. Sometimes I have to declare myself a no touching zone so I can come up from the pile of boys to breathe. 😂
@midnightatsunset oh no, my in laws are weird independent of Christmas. One of my BILs and his wife are cool, but my MIL, FIL, and my other BIL are all certifiably nuts. We don't talk to them much, me not at all if I can avoid it
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: not that much, sometimes my back hurts especially when I come up the stairs for some reason.
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: I had the 20 week ultrasound today. I can't believe I'm halfway already! I feel like it's going so fast this time.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): What are some of your family holiday traditions? I don't know if we really have any unique traditions really, I feel like it's mostly common stuff like baking special cookies and driving around looking at Christmas lights, etc. My husband's family had a tradition of watching The Santa Clause on thanksgiving (night) and I kind of like that one since that movie is so good.
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: What did everyone dress as for Halloween if you did anything? I just wore a maternity dress I already had and got a witch hat. I kind of wanted to do something clever but I didn't have the time.
@emeraldcity603 it's definitely our daughter that's doing all that in our house 🤣 she climbs up the outside of the stair rail *constantly* and literally nothing is safe from her chucking it at full strength lol. Our oldest is my copy paste child, he would rather be alone in bed reading all day, and is extremely stubborn and quick witted, much to my occasional dismay haha. Our boys are definitely very snuggly and will suffocate me if given the opportunity, but our daughter is pretty cuddly too! Though she has always been the most independent of the three. Every child is unique regardless, its just always been comical to me that grandma will sit there and say "girls are just so calm" while our daughter actively pterodactyl shrieks and attempts random unannounced trust "falls" while launching herself off dining chairs and couches at any moment in the same room.
5.) ꜱʏᴍᴘᴛᴏᴍꜱ: tired, arm numbing easily when sleeping
6.) ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇxᴄɪᴛɪɴɢ/ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ: birthday this weekend, unfortunately our trip is getting pushed back a few weekends for finances. Did schedule our Christmas photos for December.
7.) ɢᴛᴋʏ (ꜱʜᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ): What are some of your family holiday traditions? Christmas photos, we don't live anywhere near family right now (we live in Hawaii) so many of our traditions kind of slowed. However, we will be moving back next year and will be starting the tradition to leave water and grass for the camels under the children's bed soon, maybe next year. Typical traditions though with food, shopping, family time, hot coco, pictures, painting, advent calendars and pajama matching. Getting my tot that cardboard mini playhouse thing this Christmas. Things and traditions will look much different as the years progress since my first is only two.
8.) Qᴜᴇꜱᴛɪᴏɴꜱ: My tot wore Batman, husband was a DIY joker, and I was poison ivy also a DIY. It was fun but I definitely wore the wrong shoes. I was exhausted that night and the following day.
Re: Weekly check-in 11/3/2025
2.) ᴅᴜᴇ ᴅᴀᴛᴇ (ᴡᴇᴇᴋꜱ+ᴅᴀʏꜱ): March 16 // 21w1d
