3rd Trimester

Gestational Hypertension in the third trimester

Is anyone else dealing with this issue? I’ve been in and out of the hospital since 29 weeks for hypertension related issues. It’s making me absolutely crazy and to top it off the blood pressure cuff my OB gave me is reading absolutely insane blood pressures like “145/45” and “63/47” even though I am carefully taking my blood pressure exactly the same every time. It almost never gives me a reading it’s either an error code or a crazy reading so I have nothing to actually go on for my medication, I can’t just drop everything to go to the hospital three times a day when my blood pressure cuff reads a crazy number and I have already had this dumb cuff replaced once.

  • I've been diagnosed with it and I went to the hospital once. By the time I got there my BP was normal and the nurses all acted like I was imagining things. My dr put me on labetalol and it has helped. My BP would spike randomly and give different readings on each arm. Doing a medical induction this Friday at 38 weeks because of it.

  • Oh, how exhausting this is. I ditched the cheap monitor my doctor handed out because its readings were all over the place. Instead I bought a higher‑quality upper‑arm model (Omron makes good ones) and calibrated it at an appointment. If the numbers still look strange, take it to your doctor’s office and ask them to compare — sometimes proper cuff size and arm positioning make all the difference.
I also decided to move my “health command center” right onto my wrist and bought a smart watch with a blood pressure monitor. Gadgets like this help keep things under control and make you worry a bit less about pressure spikes.
