Pants! Help!

What are we doing for pants? This is my first (and probably only) so I’m kind of at a loss when it comes to pants that fit without looking wonky.

I’m at a point where most of my usual jeans are a bit too tight. I ordered some maternity jeans from Target and just am not feeling it. They sag in the front and there’s no belt loops….or a zipper or button. I can see how the stretchy band might be comfy later, but right now it’s a bit much.

For context, I’ve only bought jeans from Buckle for years (I just appreciate that my size is the same in all their jeans and it’s easy to shop). I can’t wear leggings at work so jeans are preferred since I’m also not a slacks kind of girl.

Has anyone had any luck just sizing up throughout their pregnancy? I’m also open to any suggestions.

Re: Pants! Help!

  • Yeah this is kind of tough.. Sizing up doesn't really work, at least not for long. You could try skirts or dresses.
If your regular jeans still fit, you could always try the hair tie trick, loop a hair tie through the button hole and then hook it around the button. Not ideal but it’s something?
Some maternity jeans have the stretchy side panel, target has a lot of cute options for side panel if you’re willing to buy another pair or two. Unfortunately there’s not a ton of ways to incorporate a baby belly. It does depend how you carry too, you may be blessed and not have a giant belly, but this is my third and I literally always look like I’ve shoved a basketball in my pants 🥴
the over belly maternity pants really do come in handy later on once your belly grows but yeah the over belly band is just annoying AF at first.

  • Drawstring pants. I have chambray, linen, and green material ones. Target and J Crew factory finds. There are some on Amazon too.
  • If you have thrift stores near you, it helped me to try on a few brands of maternity Jean brands and styles side my side. I hated the style with the sewn-in belly band throughout my first pregnancy. I would fold it up and down depending on the pressure I wanted. There are more low waisted styles. I appreciated that once I found the right fit it was in my same standard jean size. Gap, I think.
  • People have recommended bella bands which allow you to continue to wear your jeans but you can unbutton and unzip them and then put this band around the waist to hold the pants up!
  • I use a hair tie for the pants that aren't too small (for now). Also bought a pant extender on Amazon that works great too (for later in the pregnancy). They come with a band you use over the pants since they don't zip and close. This is my second so I saved those luckily.
