Upcoming Appointments: Glucose screening and OB checkup on Wednesday
How are you feeling?: I’m doing okay though the aching in my hips and knees at night has reached a new level. I feel like I flop around like a fish half the night trying to get comfortable - my poor husband. This morning when I woke up, I felt a lot of pressure in my right side and when I put my hand there, I could feel baby boy’s head clear as day. So he’s definitely still squirming around and hasn’t settled into a heads down position yet lol
I’m a little worried about the glucose screening on Wednesday. I have a lot of risk factors for GD. In fact, they had me do a glucose screening at 12 weeks as well, which I just barely passed. I’d love not to have to deal with GD and everything that comes with it for the rest of the pregnancy and over the holidays. Fingers crossed.
Rants/Raves: We had our baby shower this weekend, and it was wonderful to have family and friends all come out to celebrate baby boy! Folks were so generous with us, and it was wild to unwrap baby onesies and footie pajamas and realize that in 12ish weeks, we’ll have a baby that tiny who will wear all those clothes and use all the new things. Now to wash everything 😂
Questions: Can’t think of anything at the moment
GTKY: Where have you always wanted to travel to?
Since I was little, I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland and Scotland. I’m part Scots-Irish, and then I married my husband, who is half Scottish, and whose family way way way back had a castle in Scotland that is now a ruin. Suffice to say, the desire to get over there has increased. Not only do I think the countryside would be beautiful (I may also be slightly obsessed with highland cows) and the whisky tasting top notch, but it would be so cool to see a place with so much family history. Maybe we’ll take baby boy over there when he’s old enough to enjoy and remember it.
Upcoming Appointments: I am postponing my work trip to do my glucose test because the phlebotomist took a 3 hour lunch unexpectedly last week during my appointment.
How are you feeling?: very round. I am doing better this week. We are almost caught up. My garage is still a disaster. I can see the light though. I am so tired of lifting things. We were out doing chores yesterday and I felt like I was a month farther than I am and told my husband I'm not going to be able to do this in a month or so. Haha thank god my oldest 2 are big enough to take over for a bit when my husband can't.
Rants/Raves: my 2 year old is a hilarious being and I am just loving this time. He is so smart and so matter of fact. He reminds me of a bit of each of his brothers and it's so fun to relive them in a way through him. I've been asked somewhere around 20 times if I'm getting my girl or trying for one and it's actually be very therapeutic. I was dreading those interactions and now it's just as it was before. Grief is such a wild ride.
Questions: anyone have a name? I'm having a hell of a time. I never thought I'd be naming a 5th boy!
GTKY: Where have you always wanted to travel to? @ahume131 Scotland and Ireland are on my list as well! The land looks so lush and wonderful and yes the whiskey! I love a whiskey porch nightcap. Obviously not at the moment. 😉 I'd also love to see Australia and the Netherlands. My family conquered Normandy in the day so that would be cool to see. Twice they stormed those beaches. Really I just love a good adventure and to explore.
We have friends who are perpetual cruisers. I could not, but they love it. They travel everywhere and just live on cruise ships. They've been doing it close to 5 years. They've seen so much doing that.
@ahume131 I'm so glad you had your shower and it was lovely. It's such a great tradition. I think it really builds up confidence in yourself and your community and that is priceless when entering this new chapter of life! Happy washing! 🤭
How are you feeling?: I've been having a lot of lower back pain these past couple months. I think it's pregnancy hormones causing an old injury to flare up, so that hasn't been fun. And the brace my doctor recommended did really help, just kinda felt like I was squishing baby girl; she seemed to think so, too! To go with that, I have a cold, and I coughed so hard this morning that I got sick...🫤 I did pass my glucose test this last week, though, so that was good!
Rants/Raves: See above...
Questions: No, don't think so.
GTKY: Where have you always wanted to travel to?
My husband and I went to Scotland for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. I would happily go back there! Past that, I've always wanted to see The Alhambra, I would love to explore Greece, and I think a visit to London would be so much fun.
How are you feeling?: very round, this is the biggest my belly has been for being 6 months along. i feel so grateful that i haven’t had any uncomfortable symptoms recently. we had a recent family emergency and it was nice not having to worry about pregnancy symptoms, the hardest part was remembering to eat & take my prenatals.
Rants/Raves: rants - TW!! PEDIATRIC SURGERY. mommas, please please please always trust your maternal instincts when you know your baby isn’t doing well. our 15 month old daughter woke up in pain one morning and the pain caused her to be extremely lethargic. i immediately took her in to the pediatrician & they ruled it out to “she caught a virus, she’s fine”. i knew it wasn’t just a virus, she couldn’t keep anything down, not even pedialyte. took her in to pediatric urgent care, got transferred to the local ER, from there we got transferred to a children’s hospital a few cities away. she ended up having something called intussusception (it’s basically when the intestines slide into itself, basically like s telescope). they tried a less invasive procedure to try and fix it but it failed, she needed surgery. during surgery she got a bowel resection (that’s when they cut off the dead or damaged intestine and they attach the healthy ends back together). she had a week long stay at the hospital. i mention all this not to scare but to inform. i had never heard of this before & i urge you all to always always trust your instincts. you know your babies better than everyone. ask questions & don’t settle with the “it’s normal” replies.
rave - she’s home and recovering well 🥰
Questions:
GTKY: Where have you always wanted to travel to? i would love to travel to Japan, maybe one day. if i could travel to a fictional world, i would love to visit middle earth 😂
@ahume131 baby showers are always so fun! i’m so glad you enjoyed yours. i myself tend to get shy right before one even if it’s just family & close friends attending 😂 but once it’s started and happening, i feel so much love and happiness from seeing a beautiful community surrounding our baby and i. it’s such a blessing!
@emeraldmaybythebay i completely relate to feeling as if i’m a month farther along! we’ve compared pictures from my past pregnancy and i’m so close to looking how i did when i was full term and we still have some months to go 🫠 i can feel the waddling stage creeping through.
& regarding names, we settled on a name fairly quickly!! which im so happy about because i remember naming our boys and still deciding on a middle name at the hospital when he was already born. for me, it was easier to name our daughters but i remember how hard it was to finally decide on our boy names. i wish y’all luck in coming across the perfect name for your baby boy 💙
@littlebabybuster OMG I am so glad she is OK and you listened to your gut. Nothing is worse than a baby in pain. Surgery at such a young age (or ever) is terrifying as a Mom. The helplessness you feel. I saw a small glimpse of how strong parents with truly ill children are. Count my blessing sort of thing. My youngest had a double inguinal hernia at birth. We didn't discover it until he was 3ish months. I thought I noticed a 3rd testicle at 2 monthd and I couldn't picture it for the doc. It would show up and disappear. Then I finally did get it photographed and was so worried it was a tumor. The doctor got the image and saw us immediately because he was also worried. He told me it could be a couple things and referred us. We went to a specialist and they discovered an inguinal hernia. Then we had decisions to make. We decided to do the new tech version because of the possibility of a second hernia and there was a second so they did both at once. The worst part was they wanted to wait as long as we could because he was so young. For nearly 2 months we got no sleep. It would pop out and I'd have to hold it in. It always happened when he would relax so sleep was short lived and he craved being held. He was just not the happy little baby he was before. Finally I demanded they do it because I was so worried it would get twisted and the surgeon agreed. OMG the pitiful baby he was when I got to the room post surgery. I thanked that surgeon profusely at our check up. My happy little guy was back. 💙 Nothing scarier. I am just so relieved for you and your babe and entire family that everything went well. 🙏 it's so hard when parts of your heart live outside your body. Also glad you were not experiencing pregnancy symptoms during the ordeal! That would have been the cherry ontop so to speak!
Sooo round! 🫡Haha we ran into our neighbor from our previous home. A sweet older woman and she said "You due this month? Thanksgiving? Christmas?" I laughed so hard. I WISH. Try half a month into the new year! 🤣 she hadn't seen me up close in a couple months. The more you have the quicker you pop and the bigger you expand. I'm saying my mantras in my head. "This is temporary, this too shall pass. My body will be mine again. This is the last one. Enjoy it all." Despite my efforts, I'm not sure it's working! 🙃
