Sick Mama

I’ve been sick for the past week. Sinus infection and mainly upper respiratory stuff. I’ve been using some medicine that is deemed okay from my OB and nurses, but I just feel like I’m not getting any better. I’m 17 weeks pregnant. I had a bad immune system before pregnancy and would get sick almost every time the seasons change. Has anyone else got sick and what worked for you?

Re: Sick Mama

  • I’ve only had a mild cold so far this pregnancy. My last pregnancy I had a worse cold with a lot of congestion. Personally, I like nasal rinses because I feel it helps to clear things out in my nose for a little while. I also tend to gargle with warm (not hot) water with a lot of table salt mixed in. I also will gargle with hydrogen peroxide and water. I find that kind of helps a lot especially if I feel a cold coming on and it helps clear the germs from post nasal drip or a scratchy throat (although - if you have strep or inflammation in your throat these will hurt like a mf so keep that in mind)

  • I was basically sick from mid August until the end of September. I just got one cold after another. One I felt feverish with. I eventually recovered fully and I’m pretty sure we have a new cold but I’m not very symptomatic from it.

I am currently sick now with what is apparently Covid-19. It hit me Monday out of nowhere and I had to leave work. My at home test lit up right away.  I’ve been in bed the last four days sleeping like 20 hours a day. Doing all the things- hot tea. Nasal spray. Water. IV drinks. I have eaten one bowl of soup per day but have had no other appetite.

Today was the first day I got up and was able to move and stay awake for almost 8 hours. The worst part was this crazy razor blade sore throat. It was like sore throat/strep on steroids. It hurt to swallow my own saliva and at night it’s 1,000 times worse. I’m pretty much down to congestion and slight cough and slight sore throat. I was able to get a numbing mouth wash today from teladoc.

My dilemma- I RSVPd to a wedding for co worker months ago that is on Saturday. It feels wrong to show up “sick” put it also feels wrong to cancel essentially one day before. I’ve even had coworkers reach out to check on me and are saying “we hope you’re better we want you at the wedding.” I guess I feel this obligation to go, but it feels wildly irresponsible to go with lingering Covid symptoms. I’m sure they would understand, I think it’s just my own fears in the way.

Plus I was out of work all week- feels like that looks bad to supervisors going to wedding after being out all week. Ugh.

    Help! What would you do?
  • @robinj716 What’s the current recommendation for Covid? I would just follow whatever that is.
  • @robinj716 I personally will use feeling unwell to not attend things - especially when pregnant. For me it’s hard to justify going to something when I am symptomatic AND barely feel like myself because I know I will be miserable and feel even worse the next few days.
  • @robinj716 Feel better! I just got my Covid shot and every muscle in my body hurts, which is usually what happens. I sometimes run a fever but haven’t this time.

I personally would not attend any events if I was symptomatic.
