Trying to Get Pregnant

Another Chemical? Confused, Emotional, and Seeking Advice

Hi everyone,
I’m 29 and my husband is 30. We’ve been trying to conceive since my miscarriage earlier this year, and this cycle has been an emotional rollercoaster.

I ovulated on September 22nd and tracked my BBT daily. Temps stayed elevated (around 98°F) for about 10–11 days post ovulation. I had a lot of classic symptoms—fatigue, breast swelling, mood swings, and even some left-side cramping and unusual discharge. It felt different this month, and I was hopeful.

My OB was optimistic too—on an ultrasound right before ovulation, she said I had a great lining, one large dominant follicle on my right ovary, and several smaller ones. I felt like everything was aligning.

Around 12 DPO, I had one episode of red bleeding when I wiped, but then nothing for the rest of the day. The next morning, I had more brown discharge, and then a mix of red and brown over the next couple days—never enough to fill a pad, mostly spotting. I was sure I was starting my period. But now, that spotting has become heavier bleeding. My temp dipped for one day, then spiked back up to 98.3°F, which was so confusing.

I’ve taken pregnancy tests that were negative, so I’m guessing this is another chemical pregnancy. My energy has been so low this week, and I’m just feeling defeated. I don’t know if I should ask my OB about trying progesterone support after ovulation next cycle.

If you’ve experienced a chemical pregnancy, bleeding that starts and stops like this, or had success after adding progesterone—please share. I just want to feel like I’m doing the right things to support my body. ❤️

Thank you for reading and sending love to anyone else in this same confusing place.

  • Hi there, I’m so sorry for your loss. Did you ever have a positive pregnancy test? I’m confused what makes you think this was a chemical pregnancy? (Genuine question, I know text can sometimes sound snarky so apologies if it does.) I sometimes spot before I bleed.

We typically discourage one off posts like this as we like to build more of a community but there aren’t many of us at the minute. If you’d like to join our conversations, we have weekly threads where we discuss things like this together.

If you never got a positive test, you were never pregnant. I really don’t understand the desire to label a cycle a chemical when you never turned a test positive. This is not the first post I have seen like this and it baffles me. If your symptoms were actually pregnancy symptoms you would have seen a second line on those tests.
