Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Newborn hearing nervous

Hi all. I’m a second time mom. I find myself extremely anxious this time about everything about my newborn that I don’t remember focusing on the first time around after being in survival mode. My first is 3 years old now but from what I can remember he was so sensitive to noises from the get-go. Startled dramatically to noises right from the womb. My baby is now 6 weeks old and I have only minimally seen him startle a few times. I find myself obsessing over his hearing now. I have a loud 3 year old at home who doesn’t phase him. He passed his newborn hearing screening test in the hospital. I feel like if he was my first baby I wouldn’t even be thinking twice about it but since my first was so sensitive and startle-y to noises now I’m conscious about it.

Anyone else’s baby not phased by noises but can still hear? I’m freaking out a little bit!

Re: Newborn hearing nervous

  • That sounds really tough, and it’s completely understandable to feel frustrated after waiting so long. Five years is a huge commitment, and not seeing progress for six months would wear on anyone. Covid delays made everything slower, but hopefully things are picking up again soon. Taking a break or planning that vacation sounds like a great way to recharge while you decide what’s next.
