Subchorionic Hemorrhage + Bleeding — looking for advice/encouragement

Hi everyone,

I just got back from the ER and found out I have a large subchorionic hemorrhage. I’m about 6 weeks pregnant and had a really scary episode of heavy bleeding with clots, but the ultrasound showed a heartbeat and the sac looked okay.

The doctors basically told me to rest and keep an eye on things, but I’m still really nervous. To make things worse, I can’t get in to see my OB again before I leave for vacation, so I’m stressed about traveling with this going on.

Has anyone else been through this and had things turn out okay? How long did the bleeding last for you? Did you have to stay on strict bed rest or were you able to still do normal stuff?

I’d love to hear some positive stories or just any advice — feeling pretty anxious right now. ❤️

Re: Subchorionic Hemorrhage + Bleeding — looking for advice/encouragement

  • Hi there. I’ve had 3 pregnancies, all with subchronic hemorrhages in the first trimester. First pregnancy went to the ER, they labeled it a threatened miscarriage and told me to take it easy the next few weeks. My daughter is 6 now. My second pregnancy the blood sac unfortunately outgrew the baby and I miscarried. Third pregnancy, also experienced bleeding which slowed down, my baby is 1 now. So there’s always hope especially if you’ve heard that heartbeat. ❤️ Take care of yourself, minimize movement, heavy lifting, intimacy, stress etc in the meanwhile would be my advice. Sending you prayers and lots of love ❤️

  • My last pregnancy I had one in my second trimester, the bleeding lasted a few days-i also was terrified of the what ifs. That is a great sign you heard the heartbeat. I was also told to take it easy as well, and the bleeding eventually stopped and i went on to have a full term pregnancy. After delivery you could see where the bleeding was on my placenta. I get it, it’s so hard not to let your fears and thoughts over run you-hang in there and listen to your body! Praying for you and baby!
  • I have a friend who had a SH while she was pregnant with twins and described her bleeding as "like a murder scene" but babies were totally okay and born healthy. I'm not sure if she knew at the time that she had the SH or not.

I have a small SH this pregnancy and had a slightly larger one last pregnancy and thankfully haven't ever had any bleeding due to either of them. Discussing it with my doc she said the bleeding is less concerning if there's no cramping. No cramping is a good indicator the blood is likely coming from the SH and not due to a miscarriage. I happened to ask if the location of the SH in relation to the baby had any effect on the baby (or maybe it was likelihood of the bleeding happening) and she said no.

And know that SH's are quite common so there are many that have been in your shoes with good outcomes ❤️
