Breastfeeding

Ftm/formula suggestions

Im a first time mom and due in January 16th. Boyfriend and I found out we’re having a baby girl. I am planning on breastfeeding, but if for some reason I can’t breastfeed for long and need to switch then I’ll switch to formula. Does anyone have any suggestions for formula brand?

Re: Ftm/formula suggestions

  • Hi! Congratulations! It's great that you are thinking of breastfeeding, and also have a "back up plan". Do you have any breastfeeding support in your area? This would be a great place to start, if you feel like things aren't going as you expected. As much as we'd like to think that breastfeeding comes easily and naturally, it's a learning process for you and baby! See if you can find a lactation counselor, usually there are several groups if you look for them (either based out of the hospital or in the community). I love these groups, the counselor is usually very supportive and it's so nice to meet other mom's going through similar things, I'm still friends with some of the moms I met and our kids play together! As far as what type of formula, each baby is different, so I wouldn't recommend stocking up now, just in case baby can't have a cow's milk one, or needs a different type of formula. You will get plenty of samples mailed to you, if you join the formula company's mailings. Personally, after breastfeeding, I just used the store brand/Costco brand formula, once I knew my baby could tolerate it. Formula is so expensive!
