Pregnancy insomnia tips?

Hey there, hoping someone might have some pregnancy insomnia tips! Backstory: I’ve been having some trouble sleeping since I got pregnant, mostly with falling asleep. I used to be asleep by 9/9:30 most nights, but these days I typically can’t fall asleep til 1 or 2am. Luckily, I’m not currently working so it’s not a huge deal to sleep later in the morning, just annoying. But in the past week or 2, things have gotten worse. On top of not getting to sleep until 2 most nights, I’m waking up for a couple hours around 4. And last night I laid in bed awake until around 5am before I was finally able to fall asleep.

I don’t think it’s aches and pains, and some nights there’s an anxiety component but not always. I’m medicated for the anxiety, and I’ve been taking Diclegis every night since the first trimester so hesitant to take Unisom on top of that. I have a pregnancy pillow that I feel works well enough for me.

Just bought Ritual’s Magnesium+ that is supposed to help with sleep and joint pain (which I’ve also been having), but wondering if anyone has any other tips? The Magnesium+ won’t come til 9/4 and hoping to get some sleep before then

Re: Pregnancy insomnia tips?

  • Have you tried meditation? I follow YouTube ones and even do hypnobirthing ones while pregnant and helps me with delivery and being calm. They have sleep ones and so many others. I swear by it, but I know everyone is different.
I hope you are able to get some rest soon! Insomnia is so awful to deal with, especially while pregnant.

  • Magnesium glycinate has been helpful for me (the stuff in Calm drink powders). It can also help with restless leg syndrome. I mix with a bit of collagen powder. I recently added a small dose of melatonin too, and that’s been a huge help!
  • @emeraldmaybythebay that’s a good idea! I have the Calm app and don’t use it as much as I should. I’ll look into some meditations there.

@knottie03c6525322d0a19c that’s good to hear! The Magnesium mix I ordered from Ritual has magnesium biglycinate in it so fingers crossed that will help!! I had heard somewhere that melatonin was a no-no for pregnancy but that has worked for me in the past - have you heard differently?
