2nd Trimester

Chronic constipation and awful OBGYN

Y’all, I’m at my wits end. I’ve always had digestion issues (it runs in my family) and it’s at its all time worst now (I’m 21 weeks today).
My OB is horrible. Every time I ask her anything or bring up concerns, she brushes me off and rushes me out the door. My appointments with her are never more than 2 or 3 minutes. Unfortunately, I’m too far into payments to switch doctors.

Anyways, I’ve tried all the laxatives, etc. and have finally had to result to enemas because nothing works. I’ve upped my fiber and water intake. I get a decent amount of exercise. Miralax has never worked for me. I eat prunes every day. Stool softeners don’t help at all.

I brought this up to my doctor today and she said the only option she would give me is daily Miralax and to not use anything else for at least two weeks…even if it means not going at all for that time. She kept interrupting me and telling me to just try it - even though I told her I have MANY times.
My non-pregnant/non-hormonal/even-tempered husband was there too and he was even mad at the way she talked to us (and treats us on a regular basis).

Anyways, aside from dealing with a horrible doctor, I’m miserable with this constipation. I go MAYBE 1-2x a week with the help of extra strength Ex Lax at this point. I feel sick all the time.

Has anyone else found a solution for severe constipation? I’m miserable and feel like I have no options left or any support from my doctor. 😞😭
Any advice?

Re: Chronic constipation and awful OBGYN

  • Hi! I have the same issues and did before pregnancy. I’m 20 weeks and it’s gotten worse. Miralax doesn’t work for me either. You can safely add 500 mg of magnesium. I take it at night before bed. I also still drink one cup of coffee in the morning because I can’t go without it. I drink 8 oz of prune juice right when I get up and that helps as well. I also take senna when I am really feeling backed up and that is a life saver. I take 2 or 3 tablets at night. My doctor said it was fine to take the pure senna tablets.

  • I find it helps to eat frozen wild blueberries.. like an entire bowl.. it’s also good for your skin and the baby’s brain
  • Hydrating and electrolytes have really helped, so coconut water. Also walking every hour or two really helped me digest and feel the urge. Varying my diet and cuisine helped too!
