Husband thinks "Rosie Russell" will be teased for her name

Our last name is Russell, and I love how "Rosie" sounds with it. (I'd probably do Rosie as a nickname to something like Rosalie.) However, my husband thinks kids will make fun of her for having the name Rosie Russell. I just don't see it, but maybe I'm being naive. Do you think I would be setting our daughter up for being teased for her name?

Re: Husband thinks "Rosie Russell" will be teased for her name

  • Personally, my first, middle, and last name all started with M before I got married, and had a similar "cutesy" sound to Rosie Russell. I WAS teased for it, and continued to be into adulthood until I got married and changed my name. People can be extremely patronizing, and that was a lot of my issue. People talked down to me frequently, at school, customers and colleagues at work, even occasionally people at stores who saw my name when I handed over my debit card or gave my name for rewards. I always recommend that people stay away from same initials for first and last name, but also ask yourself if your child can live with their name as an adult in a professional setting and be taken seriously. It's unfortunately a bigger issue for women than men, but a real consideration.
