Re: Weekly Check-In w/o July 28

  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 12-26 / 18&3

    FTM/STM/TTM+/it's complicated: 3rd

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: blue!

Upcoming Appointments: 18 week level 2 ultrasound tomorrow. Hopefully everything still looks good and we are one step closer to being out of the woods as far as complications from exposure.

Then 20 week on 8/12, phone call with my doc a couple days after that, 22 and 24 week ultrasounds and then my doc again on 9/8. Plus the weekly/biweekly diabetic check ins.

How are you feeling? ANXIOUS. DH went with me to my 18 week appointment on Friday and was like “is it normal I’m nervous?” Dude, I’m not the right person to ask, ive been a galaxy sized ball of anxious/nervous/stressed out for the last 12 weeks. Physically? I’m tired and hungry. RLP is sporadic but frequent and I feel huge even though I think I’ve only gained 7 pounds?

Rants/Raves: Baby looked good at my appointment!
My youngest got a hold of a pair of scissors and gave herself bangs. Again. I don’t even recognize the pair she had, like I’ve never seen them before. We keep the pair I know about above the fridge for this reason. I was able to somewhat temporarily “fix” them till we can get her over to the salon. But I swear these kids manifest craft supplies out of thin air. Like WTF?

Questions: anybody have a second blood test for genetic conditions done? I didn’t even know there was another but apparently there is and I was told if I wanted it to go to the lab after my appointment. So now I’m checking for the results and so that I can see exactly what they tested for.

GTKY: What is one trait of yours or your partner's that you really hope this baby inherits? (Or alternatively, what's one trait you're really hoping skips this generation?)

Oooh this is a good one! I really hope he doesn’t get my temper. My dad has already talked about getting him into racing/dirt bikes (which the mama bear in me doesn’t love because not safe! But the adrenaline junkie in me thinks he will probably be all for) As for DH, he can be so very hard on and critical of himself, which I think is more a learned habit/coping mechanism but I’m hoping he doesn’t inherit or pick that up. I hope he gets DH love of the outdoors, I hope he gets both our passion for learning/information.

Physically I hope he’s a ginger 🤣 I have serious natural red highlights and DH has random red bits, so possible but not probable. He will probably get closer to DH’s skin tone which is more olive/Italian than my super fair makes Casper look like he had color shade if the girls are anything to go by. It would be really cool if he gets DHs amber eyes. Both the girls have a hazel/brown/grey/amber mix, which I didn’t figure they would get my blue.

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: PINk!
Upcoming Appointments: Anatomy scan August 5th
How are you feeling? Exhausted. So heavy. Antsy. Hormonal.
Rants/Raves: My husband was traveling abroad for training for work and the night before he was supposed to fly home he was accidentally got pushed in front of tram. Knocked him out cold for over 6hrs. He woke up in the hospital zero recollection of what happened but in a panic and absolutely determined to make his flight home. Dr said he had a concussion but was cleared to fly and made it home, Glory to God, with hardly any memory of getting back to his hotel to pack and getting on the plane. He was off work for a week. His knee is still messed up, but he returned to work yesterday.  It could have been so, so much worse. I'm still reeling a bit even a week later and totally cried when he left for work yesterday....
So far everything has looked and sounded great with baby. But this pregnancy has been a lot more stressful than my others between illnesses, high fevers, morning sickness, and just overall stress. Trying to just trust everything is ok but I am really stressing over my upcoming anatomy scan.
On a better note, after being overwhelmed by all the girl things after being a boy mom for 15yrs I finally found my girl aesthetic.  Look at this adorable print!!! 😍😍😍

    Questions: Na.
GTKY: What is one trait of yours or your partner's that you really hope this baby inherits? (Or alternatively, what's one trait you're really hoping skips this generation?) So far we have 4 kids with brown eyes and 3 with blue. My husband is really hoping this baby gets my blue eyes, and my reddish highlights (not a redhead but as a kid was strawberry blonde and now a brown with an auburn undertones). I hope she gets my husbands sense of humor and ability to connect and empathize with everyone.

  • @nopegoat oooh I love that print! I love whimsical but not super over the top girly.

And Oh MY Gosh I’m so glad your DH is okay! How scary! I absolutely feel you on the whole this pregnancy has been extra extra stressful bit.

Even though both my previous pregnancies were complicated and a nerve wracking experience this one takes the cake.

  • @thatbaintforbetty and @nopegoat so sorry you both are going through stressful times! I hope things calm down for you both soon or at least have more positives than negatives in the near future!
  • @caffeinatedandtired thank you! I did get good news from my ultrasound today, blood flow still looks great and baby was so active the tech had to try multiple times to get certain measurements. So far so good! Each good report is one step closer and I’m holding on to that!

How are you feeling? Suddenly solo until 32w. I’m counting my blessings that it’s short and he can be home fast if he needs to, but we’re over this military life. 😔

    Rants/Raves:  pretty much that ☝️

Questions:  Other than pelvic floor PT, is anyone doing anything physically for pushing prep like stretches, strengthening, (endurance in certain positions 🙈—is that a thing?!) etc?  Push prep is the part of labor/delivery I’m specifically wanting to prep for this time.

  • @virginiaham I don’t think I’ve heard of any specific physical activity thats helps. Plenty of people touting the benefits of dates/pineapple cores/red raspberry tea (that scientifically don't do anything but assuming they make you think you are prepared or have helped then I guess they have a placebo effect) Or just general exercising from the get go. I have seen several influencers say that their “work out routine” that they did before and continued to do helped them have an easier labor the next go around. (With some modifications usually)

My second labor was way easier than my first and I literally did nothing to prepare. Plus it was an induction whereas my first wasn’t. Every labor while be unique and has the potential to be harder/easier. Considering that one of the main muscle sets that helps are the ones that help you poop I don’t know what exercise can be done to strengthen them. Core muscles maybe but crunches while pregnant seem like they wouldn’t be feasible for long?

Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Green, but fairly certain it's a girl (due to ultrasound)

Upcoming Appointments: not for a few weeks

How are you feeling? so exhausted—again. why am I so tired this pregnancy?

Rants/Raves: The wedding went off without a hitch. my son was a little nervous/shy about walking in and taking photos, but he absolutely killed it. we were home with the kids in bed by 10:30, and it couldn't have gone any better

GTKY: Both my sons have red curly hair like their father and we are praying this one is a little finer baby, too. Red runs on both sides of the family so the odds seem good!

I mostly just want my kids to be healthy and happy and kind. those are always my wishes. my husband has a huge vocabulary that my 4y/o has, so I'm hoping my other kids pick up on the same.

Also just really want them to be funny; my husband and I are both quick witted and we hope our kids get it too.

@thatbaintforbetty So glad to hear baby is looking so good! If it makes you feel better about the bangs, when I was a toddler I swiped a pair of my mom's craft scissors but I skipped the hair and just went straight for cutting my eyeball. Yikes. Apparently I made a cute pirate for the week, but she still tells the story with what sounds like a lot of guilt...
The only other genetic testing I've been offered was a spina bifida screening that we declined since it wouldn't be confirmed until the anatomy scan either way. Did you ever figure out what the additional testing you did was for?
@brookejay06 We're signed up for birthing classes in October with a woman who is also trained as a doula, but don't intend to use her in that role for the actual delivery.
@nopegoat That's so scary, especially to have happened abroad! Glad to hear he's home safe and sound and on the mend.
@simplicidee23 I regularly spent time living in France between 2010 and 2020 (minimum a few weeks, longest stretch was a full year) and always came home with a list of those USA-specific cravings that just couldn't be sated--despite French food arguably being superior to American in most ways! I will say that, for better or worse, France and especially Paris saw a noticeable shift toward American foods being available over the course of that decade; perhaps Korea has better resisted globalization. FX you find the perfect birthday cake! If not, would it be crazy to try to make your own??
@caffeinatedandtired Our birthing class schedule is hybrid; the first three 1-hour sessions are remote/online, and then there's a final 4-hour in-person class. I felt the in-person would be important because I didn't trust my husband and I to really practice the laboring positions, relaxation techniques, comforting motions all alone in our home without feeling silly; I think we need the peer pressure to do it right :D
Also I heard my husband blowing his nose from clear across the house the other morning and made a mental note. We're gonna have to create a house rule that if you make enough noise to wake baby, you take baby!
@virginiaham I've been reading up on the Bradley method, which advocates a relaxed side-lying position for early and active labor and a squatting position for pushing. Their daily movement regimen includes lots of tailor sitting, pelvic rocking, kegels, and squats at every opportunity as you go about your day. A quick YouTube search should pull up a video demonstrating the key movements if you're interested!
Bradley is definitely a product of its time (the 1950s-1960s) and I think its rhetoric about how only a vaginal, unmedicated birth can actually be called "birthing" your baby (according to them everything else is just a passive "delivering") is actually really damaging BUT I do think there's a lot about the physiology of birth that they get right.

    FTM/STM/TTM+/it's complicated: FTM

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: 💚

Upcoming Appointments: anatomy scan with MFM on 8/7, follow-up with OB on 8/13

How are you feeling? Fine, just disappointed I guess. Feeling light cramps off and on but nothing even close to identifiable as movement. I’m not necessarily anxious about it, I know it’s still early for a FTM with an anterior placenta, but I can admit it’ll be a relief to see baby next week and confirm all is well in there.

Rants/Raves: After months of taking it without issue, I’ve somehow developed a mental block to taking my omega-3 supplement and now I gag on it every night. Yuck.

    Questions:

GTKY: What is one trait of yours or your partner's that you really hope this baby inherits? (Or alternatively, what's one trait you're really hoping skips this generation?)

I hope they inherit or are able to develop resilience and an ability to adapt to challenging situations with good spirits. This didn’t necessarily come naturally to me, but after a lot of therapy in my 20s I can say I am a more capable and kinder person for having learned those skills, and I want that for my child, too.

Also I hope they get my husband’s thick curly hair! I’ve always wanted curls but my parents had nothing to offer me but fine, stick-straight locks.

How are you feeling? Still tired. I met with a psychiatrist about depression/anxiety/PTSD at my OB's referral. After a thorough examination, he determined I have all 3, and put me on medication immediately.
    Rants/Raves: my husband
Again. This time it's about the medication. He doesn't want me to take anything that could potentially make us lose the baby. He is in recovery for addiction, 7.5 years clean and sober. So I understand not wanting to be dependent on pills, but it's not like they're painkillers. It's literally serotonin because my brain isn't making enough. He said, "Maybe you should just take lemon balm so you won't feel so overwhelmed." I said, "Maybe you should act like you care about your wife's mental and physical well-being and step up and be a partner so I won't feel so overwhelmed. Look around the house and see what needs to be done by opening your eyes and looking! You are supposed to be my partner. I'm not your maid or your mother." He got all mad, but started doing more around the house. We will see how long it lasts... ugh
    Questions: none right now...
GTKY: What is one trait of yours or your partner's that you really hope this baby inherits? (Or alternatively, what's one trait you're really hoping skips this generation?) I hope this baby gets my curly hair, like her brother did. I hope she doesn't inherit either of our propensity toward addiction.

    Edited for weird spacing.
  • It’s the middle of the night and I’m up because I have a cold. But then I realized I don’t recall the last time I felt Baby move. Now I’m stressed and trying to do kick counts and this baby is not participating. I drank a full cup of chocolate milk and I’ll probably go back for more because it’s been 30 min and I feel almost nothing. I’m so stresssssssed. Baby is probably just asleep but I can’t relax.

Oh gosh! I know that feeling! I'm glad you got some reassurance @brookejay06
  • @aisleofviewtwo apparently it’s a second neural tube defects test? I think my SIL said spina bifidia (sp?) when we were talking about it yesterday. Results came back negative/low risk so I’m not overly concerned with the specifics.

And the eye? Scary! I definitely did the cut a chunk of my hair off thing when I was a kid, apparently I’m the only one of all 4 of us that did.

My DH fell as a kid with a pair of scissors and they pierced the roof of his mouth, thankfully not deep enough to do any damage but still. He clearly was not holding them correctly and he’s pretty overly cautious about scissors now because of it, which only makes this more puzzling as to how/where she got some.

  • @bridgiebee82 I’m glad you’re taking care of yourself 💛 I feel like the medical consensus in recent years has been pretty clear that having a mom whose depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc is untreated is riskier and has worse health outcomes for baby than any risk introduced by the medications that mom would take to treat those health issues.
  • @bridgiebee82 I'm so sorry you are getting this response to trying to take care of yourself, therefore preparing yourself to better take care of your baby too. I hope your H comes around and lessens your load with support and love. Stress does effect our little ones in so many ways. Sending you lots of prayers and huge creepy ehugs! ❤️

I apologize for not thanking everyone individually for the kind comments and we'll wishes for my husband.  He has been back at work for a week now. The job they sent him on has been a hurry up and wait process so thankfully lots of resting! The fluid on his knee has finally started to really go down though his knee and shoulder are still a bit sore.

Toughest, hardworking, and most stubborn man I've ever met is an understatement lol!
