Extreme Hunger

Hi there - Has anyone experienced extreme hunger in the first trimester? I’m 7 + 4 with my first baby and last week I had to get up 3 nights in a row to nearly eat a full meal at 1 am. I have little to no nausea thankfully so I’m eating my normal amount during the day and even eating a snack right before bed to help me sleep but I would wake up with the strongest hunger pains that would not allow me to go back to sleep unless I ate. It was wild. I was fairly lean/small when I got pregnant but this has me worried about gaining a lot of weight during the first trimester if I’m basically eating a whole other meal in the middle of the night. Curious if anyone else has experienced this! Would love to hear from anyone if you have :)

btw - I changed my handle to Hadley_H after I posted this question!

Re: Extreme Hunger

  • I find myself thinking about food constantly. With my daughter, I was so queasy the first trimester I didn’t want to eat anything and now I’m always like, “I could eat.”

  • I’m hoping I’m so nauseous I lose about 10-12 lbs in the first trimester and then gain back about 18. That’s what I did with my last pregnancy and it was amazing. I wasn’t super uncomfortable and the weight loss afterwards wasn’t overwhelming. I mean, I’m still 20lbs from my target weight but that’s just what it is. I definitely don’t have the mentality that I’m eating for 2. You will pack on pounds fast. Don’t diet, just be mindful.
  • I have the "I'm so hungry but nothing sounds good" mostly. That being said I did crush 5 oranges (they were small) in a sitting the other day because I *needed* them
  • Yeup! Definitely eating more smaller snacks and small meals throughout the day. Nauseous but not throwing up and it's mainly at night when it hurts me.
