Gender Reveal

Is anyone choosing to keep the gender a secret until birth? I don't know if I would have the wherewithal to hold out. I'm thinking of flying back closer to home to have a surprise gender reveal. Haven't done this before so I'm not sure how I would go about it. Ask staff to put results in an envelope and hand that to someone who would do the event..etc.

What was your experience with gender reveals? What kind of gender reveal did you have?
What type of reveals do you not recommend?

Re: Gender Reveal

  • We didn’t do anything huge, just cut a cake with family. Honestly, simple can be just as special. The main thing is doing what feels right for you.

I didn't find out with my first and loved the experience! However, I'd only recommend if you're truly okay with either sex. A friend of mine was very much so rooting for 1 sex and I think it was overwhelming to find out at birth.
  • I found out with my first and will be finding out again. I don’t have the patience to wait and I want to be prepared. We did a very small gender reveal with our parents (we knew the sex, they didn’t). We spelled out ITS A GIRL in pepperoni on pizzas lol.
  • I need to know ahead of time. I want to buy stuff that’s gender specific. I have plenty of boy things and really not much for a girl. So I would like to be prepared. I think if it’s not a girl I will experience some disappointment and I’ll need to process that prior to the birth. Although, my heart isn’t set on it. I have boys and girls.
  • I'm way too type A to not find out, we did with our first and we will again. Nothing fancy, first time we just did cupcakes with my husband and I (the bakery I went to was so good, I just walked in with my envelope and asked her to put either the pre-made blue iced chocolate cupcakes or pink iced vanilla cupcakes in a box without telling me and she was like how about I just make you a couple hidden ones right now? I just took cupcakes out the oven to be iced! So in 5 minutes she filled two vanilla cupcakes with blue icing and did the tops in white. Such a sweet woman, will definitely go there again but will give her more notice). Anyway I think we will do the same again, I liked it just being the two- now three- of us, I felt really overwhelmed at the time by basically everything and finding out in front of other people, even close friends and family, would have been too much.
  • I'll definitely be finding out! Is anyone thinking of doing one of those sneakpeak blood tests from 6 weeks? I'm undecided about it. I love how early you can find out, but I'd hate to find out later that it was wrong, after i'd processed having a particular sex and potentially bought stuff.

I did the sneak peak once and it was right. They also offer the gender results via blood tests at 8 weeks of your insurance covers it.
  • I love having gender-specific baby stuff, so I found out before birth with all my kids. We didn't do anything over-the-top for the gender reveal—just a simple cake and balloons with hidden confetti (color based on the gender) shared with family, and that was it!  :)
  • We also did sneak peek with our second baby, and it was right! Our anatomy scan with our first baby however 👀 was WRONG lol. I'll say this, while I would never want it to happen to me again, finding out at birth that our baby was a different sex than we thought really didn't matter to me at all. You're just so elated to have a healthy baby it feels like the least important thing in the world. But I do now hold a healthy (but small) amount of skepticism for any sex determinations ahead of birth. All that said though, I am thinking about doing it again!
  • I found out my accident because we had genetic testing in our embryos, but my husband doesn't want to know until we have a gender reveal so I've been having to keep it a secret and it's killing me!!! He REALLY wants a gender reveal, he says he wants an explosion, anyone do any good " explosions" in the past?
  • I haven't done any explosions @carak1985! I decided to go with an intimate cupcake reveal recording with hubs me and my toddler. Hoping my toddler gets the cupcake 😆 🫶
