Kit is going to be a big sister but we need help with the name

We're expecting our second baby in January but don't plan to find out their sex until they're here, like we did with our daughter Kit. We loved the surprise!

We had the hardest time coming up with a name we could agree on for a boy when we were pregnant with our daughter. I admit I had my heart set on naming him some after my favorite musician Cab Calloway. He put his foot down about Cab as but did agree to the names Calloway "Cal" or Calvin "Cal". Looking back, I got my way, and I feel a little guilty about being so pushy.
The reason we struggled so much last time and this time too is that we have different tastes in names for a boy  He likes the names Boone, Shepherd, and Hawkins "Hawk". I've told him we ABSOLUTELY can't name a boy Hawk as a given name, I feel it's too much. I like short names that are old-fashioned, like Abe, Gus, and Dex.  We have started discussing the name Hawthorne (after the writer). I'm willing to give him more say this time because I do feel guilty about being so pushy last time, but I'd still want to use something I love too. Do you have any suggestions? We don't want a unisex name because sometimes, when seeing or just hearing Kit's name, people assume she is a boy at first. Our last name starts with a U so nothing that starts with an F or a P. Our daughter's name is Kit Lenore.

For a girl last time we agreed a lot more readily because we agreed on a lot of names. Our frontrunner for the longest time was Charlie/Charley, but then it seemed like every other kid we met was "Charlie." So we went back to the drawing board and came up with her name Kit Lenore we also considered Lennie Kathryn.
This time our list for a girl is, in order
Georgie
Gwen
Wynn "Winnie"
Delta "Del"
Zadie
Tillie
Ginger

We both still like Lennie, but I feel like it belongs to Kit if that makes any sense. Do you think we should keep it on the list or do you have any similar suggestions? Also we wouldn't do Kathryn as a middle name this time. Do you have any suggestions for a middle name for Lennie if we used it? In theory we like but feel we can't use the names Bee or Birdie. Do you have any suggestions that give the same feel but aren't animal related? Do you have any other suggestions for a girl? Our daughter's name is Kit Lenore and our last name starts with U.

  • I have so many ideas for this.

Boy Names in my personal preference order -
    1. Otis
    2. Clyde
    3. Ike
    4. Hal
    5. Rex
    6. Roscoe
    7. Ansel
    8. Hank

  • He might be more open to Calder and it can lead to the nickname Cal, which I really like. I love a lot of your suggestions for a boy but he'll probably say "I don't like it". I think Hank and Hal are my absolute favorites. Also makes me think of Al which I really like. Do you have any suggestions that are more his style (Boone etc) that would lead to the nickname Hank, Hal or Al?

Jovie is really cool, thanks for the suggestion. Also, I'm kind of fawning over Zelle as a first name instead of a middle name. I'm totally going to see what he thinks. As for middle names for Lennie, I do like the concept of a word name in the middle, such as Rue, Joy, Pearl, and Plum.. I also like Faye and Zelle. I also like the concept of using an O middle name to lead to the possible nickname of LOU because of our initials. What do you think of Lennie Olive, Lennie Opal, or Lennie Orchid?
