I don't plan on having my son circumcised, I don't feel there is any really good reason why it should be done. My mom is mad at me because of this and is pressuring me to have him circumcised.
We circumcised our first boy and it was kind of traumatic for various reasons, so after a lot of research and thought, we didn’t circumcise our second or third. Our pediatrician said he had four boys and did not circumcise them because it’s not a medically necessary procedure. That was really helpful in our decision. Many countries don’t do routine circumcision like in Europe. Either way, this is your choice, so you don’t have to explain your decision to anyone. Best wishes!
I don't feel one way or another about it at this point. However, I read a book about breastfeeding (Ina May's Guide to Breastfeeding) and she recommended to hold off on circumcision until your baby is a little bit older because circumcising them so soon after birth can make them have a hard time relaxing and trusting people, and it may make them not want to breastfeed. So if I have a boy and decide to circumcise, I will wait until my baby is at least a couple of months old to have the procedure done. Just my two cents!
Stick with what feels best! We circumcised our boy at birth. It was quick and healed quickly, didn’t seem to affect nursing. Our reasoning for doing so was mostly because my husband’s grandfather had trouble with infections later in life. Do what feels right for your child!
