How do you distract yourself while waiting for the first appointment?

I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks, and now at 4 weeks 6 days, all I can think about is if the baby is okay, what’s happening in there, and why does time suddenly move so slowly?! My first appointment isn’t until March 11 (around 8 weeks), and I swear, it feels like waiting for Christmas as a kid’s except instead of presents, I just want to hear a heartbeat!

I do work full-time, and my job keeps me busy, but somehow, my brain still manages to sneak in a “Hey, you’re pregnant” every five minutes. I try to focus, but then I remember, OMG, there’s a tiny human in me! and suddenly, spreadsheets don’t seem so important.

So, tell me how did you all survive the wait without going completely bonkers? Any fun distractions or weird hobbies I should pick up? Or do we all just spend these weeks Googling every symptom and staring at the calendar?

  • I just got my BFP and id like to know too! This is my first time being pregnant since 2006 so my emotions are all over the place!

  • I feel the same way too! My first appointment isn’t until March 13th. It feels like is too far away. The anxiety is killing me lol
  • Omg. I am in the same boat. I found out way too early. I'm 4w3d. I am using a birthing center who typically doesn't get you in until between weeks 10-12 for a first appointment and I am going crazy. 😂
  • Word of advice— stay the heck off Reddit. I accidentally read a thread about loss that made my waiting anxiety SO much worse and now I keep getting notifications about worst-case scenario posts… 😭

Girl, yes! And I have to be careful about my TikTok algorithm too… it makes me an anxious mess.
  • Me too 😭 I’m going homebirth route and my midwife said I can schedule my first appointment with her at 12 weeks. So that’s still 6 weeks away for me!

But I’ve been finding listening to birth vlogs on YouTube and listening to birth podcasts have been helping. Doesn’t get the anxious feeling away but it distracts me by learning more about the whole pregnancy process!
  • Girl same! We were discharged from our Fertility clinic and called the midwife office and they couldn't get us in until we're 12w3d - it feels insane to have to wait for 6 weeks for an update haha. I've been watching nesting and baby videos on youtube non-stop.
  • Got my BFP at 3.5 weeks. First time mom and so excited. Had a miscarriage last year but doctor still won’t see me until 10 weeks. I’m oscillating back and forth between ecstatic and anxious. All I think about is baby 24/7. Even when I’m working at my high paced job. The time is just creeping by!
  • Bettina Rae on YouTube has a lot of really great yoga and meditation videos for pregnancy anxiety! I did a lot of them during my first pregnancy and loved her.
  • Positive line got lighter - (Good ending)
I totally freaked myself out this morning and I wanted to leave a note about it in case anyone else runs into this.

I am 7 weeks, 1 day but I decided to test again this morning because I have so many Pregmate tests left and I thought seeing a nice dark line would be comforting while I wait for my first appointment. Well, I got a super light positive line, much lighter than I was testing at 4 and 5 weeks.

After some panicked googling, I saw someone mention that when your hCG is really high, it can 'overwhelm' the test and cause a lighter positive line. They recommending testing later when you've had more water, or even diluting your sample before testing it.

I collected, tested undiluted, then added an equal part water and tested the diluted sample too. Both tests were darker than my first test this morning, and the diluted sample was the darkest. That was so comforting!!!!!

    Immediate relief.
  • I'm either 10 or 11 weeks.  Have irregular cycles so found out about 8-9 weeks.  Although I had a hunch sooner just was too scared to test.  Anyways  , appointment isn't scheduled for when I'll be 12 or 13 weeks (13 according to lmp but I'm guessing the date will be off by a week cause of longer than 28 days cycles).  Had 2 miscarriages since 2022 and super nervous/anxious that this one is ok.  I do have more pregnancy symptoms thus time around,  so hoping all is good.  With My first successful pregnancy first appointment was around 12 weeks. With the miscarriages I went early around 7-9 weeks.  Hoping this is good luck for a successful pregnancy 🙏
  • I started crocheting and got halfway through a baby blanket… then never touched it again. But hey, it kept me busy for like 2 weeks 😂
