Anxiety Waiting for Ultrasound

Hi everyone,
I just found out I am pregnant last week and today I had my first appointment with my family doctor. According to my LMP I am about 6 weeks along. He sent orders for bloodwork and an ultrasound which I was hoping we’d be able to do sooner rather than later, however I got a call from the ultrasound office only to find out I’ll have to wait until I’m 11 weeks before getting my first ultrasound. I know this is a standard amount of time to wait, but I can’t help feeling anxious not knowing exactly what’s going on in there and if things are okay. I was hoping we’d at least get an 8wk ultrasound or something along those lines just to confirm placement and such. Just wondering if anyone has any tips for easing the anxiety I’m feeling around this waiting process, I just hate living in mystery!!

Re: Anxiety Waiting for Ultrasound

  • You have 9 months of living in "mystery" be glad that you are getting one at 11 weeks.  20 weeks is the only standard ultrasound- as it is the anatomy scan.

Just be thankful you fo not have severe cramping and/or bleeding - all is good until the US

  • I'm anxious waiting for mine as well. I've had 2 miscarriages and a stillborn. It was always fun until you've experienced loss. Very valid feelings and a dating US is very common as well. I go this week for mine. Best of luck!
  • I am anxious as well. I had a loss in December, I don't have any symptoms right now either. I am 4w1d and my OBGYN scheduled me in mid July. Just hoping and praying for the best.

  • I am anxious too and I’m 5w2d. Every new feeling I get in my uterus (the cramping/pulling/tension) it makes me nervous and I start googling and going down rabbit holes. But I like what someone else posted that you should trust your body to know what it’s doing. I remind myself constantly that as long as I’m not in severe pain or bleeding then everything should be okay 🤞
  • The anxiety continues :)
my first ultrasound was scheduled for this Friday and I was so looking forward to it.
I got a message from my Dr office that they had to cancel it…. Ok awesome. First they said ok the 29th. So I talked to someone else and told them it’s my first pregnancy and I’m pretty overwhelmed and they were able to squeeze me in on the 24th. I know I shouldn’t be so upset waiting 6 more days but I’m unraveling. I just want to know if baby is ok.
  • I am 5 weeks, I was told I couldn't get in to do the first ultrasound until almost 12 weeks and I could be put on a waitlist incase something becomes available sooner...I told them my age (41) and asked to be put on the waitlist since I was feeling anxious, they immediately made a spot for me at 8 weeks.

Tell them how you're feeling, and any other info about why you feel that way. They can probably fit you into the schedule or onto a waitlist.

  • Around six weeks there should be a heartbeat. They sell machines now that you can buy for like 60 bucks to put on your stomach to hear the heartbeat. You can also use an actual stethoscope anytime you are nervous that they are still there! We’ve come along way since our parents were pregnant with us.
  • How did it go?
  • Late to this but I remember that feeling so well. It’s such a weird time where you know you’re pregnant but have no real confirmation yet. Hoping everything looked good at your ultrasound and that you’re starting to feel a little more settled now.
  • Hi, congratulations! maybe you can mentioned you are concerned and would like earlier. I went through 4 rounds of ivf and a failed transfer and we just found out we are pregnant naturally!! Crazy, but I was able to get a 6wk ultrasound today. It could be since I was in the ivf system. I, too, with every cramp or odd symptom I start to panic and google, and think the worst but then remind myself to be present and remember at this moment we are pregnant🙏🏽. Think positive thoughts, I know it’s cliche but it definitely helps. Feeling grateful.
