Photos of babies/kids on social media

I’m torn on this subject. Part of me has a lot of respect for parents I know who cover their child’s faces with an emoji or only show photos without the face because it’s not the kid’s choice to be online and it’s nice to not spam everyone with photos of your kid. On the other hand….it’s completely normal this day and age to share photos of your kid and have friends/fam from afar watch them grow. I’d love to hear people’s input on this and maybe it’ll help me make a decision. Thoughts??

Re: Photos of babies/kids on social media

  • I don’t have anything of my kids posted on social media for many reasons.

  • As a baby photographer I come across this topic on a daily basis. I never publish pictures unless given permission by my clients and I have to say it's a 50/50 divide between clients who want complete privacy and those that don't mind the images being put online. It's a very personal decision and each family will have valid reasons one way or another.
  • I’ve seen people blur the face or use emojis for public posts but still share regular photos in a private group chat or album. That seems like a good compromise - you get to document and share without putting their image out for everyone.
  • I feel the same way. I’ve started asking myself: “Would my kid be okay with this photo being out there in 10 years?” If the answer’s no, I skip it.
