Hi guise….can I come sit with you? Β I’m squarely a Nov due date (Nov 13) but I think the board missed the sweet spot of starting up and I’m pretty sure I showed up a little too late to get it going. If it wouldn’t bother you to have me come join I’d love to hang with y’all here ❀️

How are you feeling? Pretty good! Shared the news with my mom and sister this weekend and it was a little stressfulβ€”still scared I’ll have to report back that this isn’t our take home baby after allβ€”but also a relief. Their excitement definitely helped it feel more real.Β

    Rants/Raves:

Questions: Is it normal to regularly forget I’m pregnant? I cut out caffeine and alcohol years ago so I don’t have as many lifestyle adjustments to make as some, but it’s still wild to me that I can just completely forget about this thing we’ve been waiting forever to have happen!

GTKY: What is your most prized possession? The possession I’m most scared of losing is my engagement ringβ€”an heirloom that has been in my MIL’s family for generationsβ€”but it doesn’t really feel like mine enough to be prized. So probably either my grandmother’s sewing scissors or my Staub dutch oven (bought at a time when I was living a very transient life, as a symbol of the stable home I hoped to make someday).
  • @aisleofviewtwo I really don’t know where everybody went. For both my boards they were super active till about a month or so after the due date when a lot of people moved to private FB groups. July 2014 was a wild ride, catfish, scams, super clicky. I left a year or 2 afterwards. April 2019 was awesome and super chill and we still talk in the FB group all the time. There’s like 30 or so of us left in it, started out like 50ish, and that wasn’t even everyone from the boards.Β

  • Β @thatbaintforbetty Interesting, that progression makes me think maybe TB has just followed the arc of the Internet more broadly. Like, forums like these must have thrived in the earlier versions of the internet where everybody had a blog and long form writing was common, and even in the age of social media, but now they’re just failing to compete for our attention spans with the TikTok-ification of everything.
  • It’s wild the difference from when I first joined {last decade} it was really easy to go unnoticed and get lost in the sauce of the TTGP board when there were sooo many people posting in the WTO and TWW threads. Β I definitely think people are seeking quicker info elsewhere. Β Thanks for the welcome 🫢

@aisleofviewtwo yes to the stress of sharing and the nagging fear of having to {β€œuntell”?} β€” I hope sharing will ultimately be helpful for you to be supported in the ups and downs and waiting of this! ❀️

Upcoming Appointments: who knows, more on this below

How are you feeling? Emotional, cramps, body aches

Rants/Raves/Questions: Am I just having an emotional response and the below situation is completely normal? Went to my first OB appointment today. My partner came too as we thought we were getting an ultrasound. Well we did not, the only thing she did was take my blood pressure... I even had to go elsewhere to get my blood drawn.Β  Turns out she's not actually an OB so not sure why I was referred to her. All she did was give me an information packet that was riddled with typos. She tried to set me up at the practice for a scan but "oh darn we're fully booked the next two weeks" so now I have to try to get an appointment at the hospital instead. Not sure why this wasn't booked too when I made my appointment a month ago. She gave me the info on the 2 OBs at the hospital so I could look them up and pick one. One appears to be trying to become a travel influencer and the other has many pretty negative reviews calling her the devil. This is the practice at my local hospital (and the referral from my awesome PCP) so I thought it would be a quality practice. Am I overreacting by thinking this is unacceptable or should I cut my losses and find somewhere else?

GTKY: What is your most prized possession? Probably my grandmother's pearls. I don't even know if they are real but I love feeling her presence when I wear them.Β
  • @KayMayEmmAyy definitely find someone else. Having a good OB/midwife while pregnant will make a difference. There is so much that you go through and always second guessing them is no way to go.Β

The OB’s I had for each of my pregnancies didn’t deliver either kiddo. It was whoever was on call at L&D. They usually do rotations and you are lucky if yours is on when you come in. But your OB you will see for the 8ish months and that should not be someone who isn’t willing to listen and help.Β

I did happen to really like the on call docs I got for delivery. You can always call the hospital you plan to deliver at and ask them how they handle things.Β

Also my current hospital is 15 min away but the hospital I delivered my first at was an hour away with traffic, despite there being closer ones and it wasn’t an issue. The closest hospital doesn’t have to the one you use.Β

Upcoming Appointments: Just had my ultrasound appointment and some bloodwork drawn. Baby is doing great! We heard the heartbeat and baby is very active and flipping around. Dr. said "he is doing a headstand!" πŸ‘€ HE???? LOL

How are you feeling? Less dumpster fire-y, but still exhausted 24/7. Nausea comes in waves instead of being constant. Anxiety is still through the roof at all times.Β

Rants/Raves: I hate having to go to MFM for my AMA. Like I know I'm old. I also know I'm fat. MFM didn't do any interventions for me when I was pregnant before and lost one of my twins. So like... ugh idk. I don't particularly want to go.Β

Questions: Does anyone want to to come and be my live-in chef and maid? Because I am sick of it. Lol

GTKY: What is your most prized possession? I guess it'd be my Pound Puppy that I've had since my 4th birthday. His name is Arf, and I still sleep with him every night. Lol
  • @KayMayEmmAyy Ugh that sounds like such a frustrating visit! Especially when you were expecting an ultrasound and got something so different. I’d be upset, too.

Like @thatbaintforbetty, it seems to me that you’re early enough in your pregnancy that it’s worth continuing to search for an OB and hospital that will be the best fit for you. (I also don’t think you should feel bad about scheduling a US at the local hospital ASAP so you can get eyes on baby, and then going somewhere else for the remainder of your care.) Do you think your PCP would have additional recommendations if you went back to them for advice?

Worst case I suppose you can do what my sister did with her first, which was essentially stopping visibly pregnant women she encountered in public and asking whether they would recommend their OB πŸ˜…

How are you feeling? Less nausea overall, still sore boobs, way more tiredΒ

Rants/Raves: These crazy dreams! I think in the past week, I've had dreams about tarantulas, the TSA line, and grasshoppers wearing little shoes! No wonder I feel so much more tired these days. I think all my anxiety is coming through in my dreams!

Questions: How did you handle anxiety before your NIPT/genetic testing? I feel as if I've been obsessing about the possibility of negative results.Β

GTKY: What is your most prized possession?Β  The only copy of my family's genealogical records that a state historian and distant family member had published back in the 1970s.

GTKY: What is your most prized possession? My kids! ❀️

  • @simplicidee23 Sitting with uncertainty is daunting and definitely a skill I’m still working on, but framing the NIPT as a net-positive regardless of what it reveals has helped me keep anxiety at bay.

The way I see it, NIPT can’t tell you anything you won’t find out or have to face eventually. Your child is going to be who they are. What it CAN do, though, is offer you time: time to grapple with any unexpected results, or to make decisions, or to gather resources, or to pursue early interventions, or whatever your family needs.

Sending you good vibes for calm and peace of mind while you wait!
  • Hi Everyone!
    EDD: 12/30 8weeks 5 days

    FTM

We definitely want to find out.

Just had the first appointment on Wednesday. All was well and I feel much better after seeing a heartbeat on the ultrasound.

I am feeling hungry all the time. Otherwise this week I have felt great.

    Rants/Raves:

Questions: I was planning to tell my family tomorrow but my sister is being induced early today. How long should I wait to tell, I don't want to upset her by announcing in a way that makes her feel I'm stealing her spotlight?
  • @hayhay1230 Welcome! And congratulations to both you and your sister! What an exciting time for your family!!!

I think so much of the decision on when (and how) (and with whom) to share the news comes down to context. You know your sister and family dynamics better than any of us here, but without knowing more I’d wager this should be her moment to be in the spotlight.

Not an exact parallel, but in case it helps here’s our situation: We’re planning to tell my in-laws around 12 weeks. My husband will be visiting so he can share the news in person, which we thinkΒ will be meaningful to them. Unfortunately we reach the 12-week milestone literally a week before his cousin (it’s a small but tight-knit extended family) is due with the first baby for our generation. We’ll tell his parents bc this will be THEIR first grandchild and they deserve to know as soon as we’re ready to share. But I’m adamant the news not get around to extended family for a month or maybe more after the birth bc they deserve all the focus at this time. Ours isn’t gonna be here until December, anyway, and there will be plenty of time to ooh and aah over it then.

How are you feeling? SICK. Nauseous all the time, and extremely tired. I cleaned the bathroom and put away laundry today and it felt like a superhuman feat.Β

Rants/Raves: All my favorite foods are suddenly repulsive to me. Coffee, chicken, garlic, onions, mushrooms, roasted veggies, the list goes on and on. I normally love to cook, but you cannot pay me to stand in the kitchen right now. I feel for my poor overworked husband.

Questions: When are y'all breaking the news to work? I feel like a liar agreeing to take on tasks that would coincide with my maternity leave, but I don't know how to decline without being obvious. Maybe I should just break the news early?

GTKY: What is your most prized possession? My two pit mixes!Β
