𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? Feeling a bit nervous. Got a call from the midwife today about protein in my urine. A ratio of 0.3 or higher indicates preeclampsia (which is dangerous for both mom and baby). Mine came back at 0.264, so it’s pretty close to that threshold. They are having me do a 24-hr urine collection to get a better sense of the amount of protein in the urine. We’ll see what comes of that. She didn’t mention anything about the results of the 1-hr glucose test so I’m assuming I passed?? lol I will double check on that …

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: My rant is related to the above. With my son, I had lots of high BP scares (also a sign of pre-e), so the last couple months were pretty stressful. I imagine it will be the same this time around. Not fun! My rave is that I had a nice Mother’s Day with the fam! And I picked out cute crib sheets for baby brother, which helped me settle on the nursery theme - blue/gray Dino! My son’s nursery was green/beige woodland themed.

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Has anyone done the 24-hr urine collection?

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: Do you like to play or watch sports? If so, which ones?

I like to play mini-golf! lol does that count? And we are big Boston Red Sox fans!

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? A little overwhelmed with all the appointments and such! They now have me going twice a week for NST and BPP because apparently they don't do them the same day? IDK if it's an insurance thing or just my doctor's preference or what.
But physically, feeling pretty good! Just not much energy but I think that's partially mental exhaustion.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant - just the stress of having to figure out all these appointments while I'm also wrapping things up at work!

Rave - they did a baby shower for me at work and they were incredibly generous! I just moved to this department last August and still feel like a newbie in the group, so I didn't expect it to be quite like that! Also, so far so good with the ultrasounds so just hoping it stays that way and the NST parts go well too.

    𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: Do you like to play or watch sports? If so, which ones? I'm not exactly athletic or coordinated so I've never played any real sports (things like mini golf are definitely my speed too lol). I do enjoy watching football and hockey!

Very tired. The tailbone pain has also been more intense. I’ve been wearing a support brace to take the weight off my pelvis, stretching and sitting on an exercise ball to help but it’s still a bit sensitive

    𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀:

    Rant: just the tailbone

Rave: my husband and I are going on a baby moon later this week and I’m so excited to relax

I’m not athletic at all- agree with you both on mini putt 😂

my husband and I enjoy watching soccer together, and I grew up as an SF Giants fan

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? Im feeling great! Acid reflux has been bothering me for the last like 24 hours but nothing too crazy.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: We had our baby shower on Saturday and it was beautiful weather and so fun! The nursery should be getting finalized this week too which will be really nice. I am dying to start organizing all of his stuff!

    𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: N/a

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: Do you like to play or watch sports? If so, which ones? Yes! I played basketball in HS and College and now play tennis with my husband all the time (my husband coaches HS boys tennis on the side). We are a massive sports family and can't wait to have our kiddo play sports (will try hard not to be crazy sports parents)!

𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝘁/𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲/𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗸/𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻: Betting (literally with my husband) on pink, but won’t know until we meet our little one.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? Pretty large and uncomfortable. Swollen, lots of numbness in my hands and arms, tailbone pain and lightening crotch. It’s not getting worse, so that’s good. Just a steady discomfort. 😜 Just makes me more excited to meet this tiny person!

    𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: See above. 🙄

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Has anyone had experience with using the balloon for induction? I was induced using pitocin with my third and would rather not go that route this time around. However, my labors are pretty quick with minimal pushing, which the midwife told me could result in a car delivery considering our distance from the hospital. She suggested they could try the balloon and then breaking my water to try to avoid using pitocin. Just am unfamiliar with that approach and thought I’d ask.

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: Do you like to play or watch sports? If so, which ones?

I played soccer in high school and wouldn’t mind joining a rec league one day. We do a fair amount of mountain biking, hiking, and skiing, but less organized sports these days. My husband and I enjoyed watching college football and basketball back in the day, but that definitely faded once we started having kids. Though, our oldest has been very into watching sports lately, so we’ve been doing more of that. I also love watching hockey and wouldn’t mind that catching on as a family.
  • @bigworldlittleg I am so sorry about all the stress with the pre-e scares both your first time and this time! That sounds so, so stressful. I hope you get some good news about your 24 hour screening! Keep us posted!

@butterflyhunny That stinks about having to do separate appointments each time! That’s a lot! Especially, while trying to coordinate the handoff with work. I have to do another scan because of my advanced maternal age (37- apparently it’s to make sure my old body’s placenta can keep up as we get near the end ) and it got broken up into two appointments on different days because they are too full to do it in one day. I was a little stressed about pulling that off, but it’s just a one time thing, not weekly. I’m so sorry!

@peach93 I hear you on the tailbone pain! This is a new on for me and quite unpleasant! It is worse some days than others so I think it depends on how the baby is positioned, but still pretty uncomfortable.

@ruthiedoberenz One day I want to learn to play tennis! I love that you and your husband play. I’m not sure I can get mine on board, but I’d like to learn either way.
  • @routtymama thank you!! 💕

I had the balloon for my son’s induction, and I’m not going to lie, it sucked. They told me I’d have some cramping, but it was full blown, horrible contractions. I had it in for a full 12 hrs and then they removed it (I was about 4 cm dilated at that point). Then they broke my water and started me on Pitocin. I think the balloon would absolutely get labor going for you, but you may end up needing Pitocin anyway after they remove it.
  • @routtymama I appreciate the support ❤️ don't they make you feel like mid/late 30s are so ancient with this stuff lol?
I'm lucky at least that I have a lot of control with my job, so as annoying as having two OB appointments a week for my last 3 weeks of work is, at least I can kind of coast into my maternity leave rather than getting too stressed!

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? Less acid reflux now that I have medication to deal with it, I'm feeling eager and excited to meet the little one, at this point I'm feeling so impatient and honestly so ready to be done being pregnant! I'm feeling so large and disabled with day-to-day activities. I feel fine mentally & physically I guess but the days feel like they're going so slow & I'm always really hot now that it's getting into the high 80's-90's here, I could do without that! Lol
𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant - I was subbing a 6am yoga class last week for someone while they were out with an injury and it was so exhausting when I got home around 8 I took a nap until almost 10:30. I have never been a napper and it was so crazy to me just how much energy this pregnancy is taking out of me currently! It's a whole different type of exhaustion.
Rave - It really is so so cool feeling baby moving around and kicking so strong now. It kinda blows my mind every day when I feel her move and knowing that were mere inches apart when I touch my belly and feel her pushing against it even though she's of course inside of me haha.

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: Do you like to play or watch sports? If so, which ones?
Nope! We're not a sports family at all, we prefer to spend our time outside in nature so sports have never really been a priority. I played a lot of sports as a kid and then got a horse so I competitively rode my horse through college until I retired her!
  • @bigworldlittleg Any updates on the 24 hour catch?

That sounds like an awful experience with the Foley bulb. The more I’m reading on it the less sure/more confused I am. I tend to be like a 3 or a 4cm (and like ~80% effaced) for the last month until labor finally starts, so not sure the bulb would help unless it could help me dilate to get to active labor phase, which I think is like 6 or 7cm? My OB mentioned putting it in overnight and after hearing about your experience that seems like a bad idea! Man, I just don’t know what to do! I keep hoping the baby will come a tad early and I won’t have to make the decision, but the boys’ track records trend toward being late so not banking on that.
  • @butterflyhunny I’m glad work is so flexible! And only three weeks left! Woo hoo! Love that!

And, yes! I noticed once nurse wrote on my chart that this was an “elderly pregnancy.” That one felt a bit pointed. I have heard of “advanced maternal age” and “geriatric” pregnancy, but not elderly! 😂 Goodness. Though, I will say I am very much feeling the difference between this one and my last, which was a few years ago.
  • @routtymama oh my, elderly 😆 they always try to like reassure when I say things like "because I'm old" but like, isn't that what those words mean lol?

    𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀:
Rant: still fighting with the continuous glucose monitor. On #3 and already it is having trouble.
Rave: I had a checkup and got to hear the baby’s heartbeat again which was reassuring.

    haha nope 🙈🙈

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? Still just uncomfortable. Very challenging when I need to lay down. Haha. I wish I had been able to be more active this pregnancy but overall I’ve been so exhausted. It’s a different experience having a kiddo in so many activities and needs than when I was a FTM and only had me to worry about! Lol

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Raves only this week: I passed the 3hr glucose test! It made for a long morning, but I’m glad to have that over with and onto another day. Also - my little sister is also pregnant! She is still early on and has her first ultrasound on Monday, but I’m excited at the though of having kiddos so close together.

    𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: NATM

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: Do you like to play or watch sports? If so, which ones? I played softball and did cheer growing up. Now we watch a lot of football and I love playing fantasy! My husband and I have been talking about taking up tennis after baby is here and I feel like moving again. I love being active and want to do more cardio, but I do not have the attention span for running 😂

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? Grateful! I had a work baby shower and got absolutely spoiled (including a certificate to cover newborn photos 🥰). Had my final ultrasound on May 9 and baby is head down ready to go, full marks for movement and doing well.
    𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Raves on everything above!
Rant - trying to clean out our second property by myself this week and it is pushing my capabilities. Can’t wait for it to be done.

I don’t play many sports but I like to be active. The hubby is the sporty one and I’m pretty sure I’m growing a little soccer player. We like to watch hockey and football!

@routtymama The 24-hr urine test came back normal! So no diagnosis of preeclampsia currently. Phew! Such a relief.

It's a tough call when it comes to the Foley balloon! What I read online is that it falls out on it's own once you get to 4-5cm. So if you're arriving at the hospital for the induction already at 4cm, I don't know how helpful it would be. But if you're 1 or 2cm, it might be worth it, especially if you're hoping to avoid pitocin. It could very well get labor going enough that you don't end up needing the pitocin. And yeah, it sucks, but so does pitocin! Whatever you choose, I just hope it's a smooth as possible birth experience for you  <3
