C-sections

Has anyone had a bladder injury during C-Section, and go on to have another?

Hello all!

My first birth was 5.5 years ago, and my son was born via emergency c-section after I couldn't get him to progress past 9CM for 8 hours and I started to spike a fever. Two years later I got pregnant with my daughter, and I really wanted to VBAC. My doctor was very open to the idea until I was measuring a whopping 4 weeks ahead (and I have a small frame). The scheduled C-section ended up being a blessing in disguise as she was 9.5 lbs, and she had a knot in her umbilical cord. During her c-section, my bladder was nicked. The OB said that it must have happened upon entry, where my bladder was higher than usual from previous c-section. My OB fixed the injury during the surgery, and I ended up having a catheter and foley bag for 10 days until it healed. Has anyone else had a bladder injury during a c-section? Highly considering my third baby, but so scared to go through that again.

  • Hi!
I had a super extensive bladder injury in a past c section. I developed complications from it that have ended up affecting my fertility — BUT before those complications were found, I was told you can have another baby after a bladder injury. I was told it would for sure be a planned c section and possibly a classical one (just to avoid the bladder on entry). Hope this helps!

  • I'm not sure if this helps, but during my emergency c section some of the nerves to my bladder were cut. I was told this is a common side effect/complication. It caused my bladder to be numb unless very full. I had a catheter for less than a day and was lucky to figure out how to pee on my own. I do continue to have trouble knowing when my bladder is filling up. Currently pregnant and Dr recommended a scheduled c section given my history to protect my body from injury. If you do have another, don't fear the c section. They know what your history is and will do their best to protect you from that again. I hope this helps.
