October 2025 Babies

Registry Must-haves (and considerations in these times)

Thought I'd start a thread about must have items to put on registries!

What are your must haves or favorite items?!

For those who have done this before, what items did you wish you had put on your registry/ gotten sooner the first time around?

What was overrated/ went unused/ not worth the expense?

what did you wish you had 5 of?!

Side Note:
It may feel a little early to be making big purchases (October is still a ways away!), but as a US citizen in these times I'm reading a lot about how tariffs could impact some big ticket items that are manufactured in China.

My intention in including this note in the post is not to start a political dialogue or cause panic (no one really knows what will happen in the next 6 months), but just to raise awareness so people can make their own informed decisions.

Many big name brands for items that are recommended bought new (ie car seats) are almost exclusively manufactured in China. We just bought or Graco car seats yesterday to be safe, but like I said, no one can really say how things will unfold in the coming months!

Re: Registry Must-haves (and considerations in these times)

  • 3rd time mom to be here!

Things I will be purchasing for this baby that I didn’t have for the others: bedside bassinet. My first the baby slept in the pack n play bassinet until moving up to the crib. 2nd slept in the bed with me 6 months and it was hell trying to sleep train her after that 😅. I think the bedside bassinet will be the perfect happy medium.

I bought the Doona stroller car seat off FB marketplace for my last baby and I will never go back. It was worth EVERY PENNY. My daughter fit in it up until about 18 months. I do still have the chicco keyfit30 and jogging stroller  from my first, which is perfect for when we are not on smooth terrain. (Think outdoor events)

I got a non- wifi long distance monitor with my first and it’s holding up well. I can work in my garden during nap time.
  • Loading the player...
  • Things I skip and don’t regret as a 3rd time mom to be. Bottle warmer, diaper warmer, diaper gene, bottle sanitizer, lots of bottles (we keep about 4 and stay on top of dishes). Car camera monitor (or whatever it’s called) Special bottle soap.
  • Honestly, for third kid - a few bottles (6-8 is probably fine), clothes (my kiddos lived in sleepers), swaddles, and a place to sleep are the needs.

Must have for me: bedside bassinet, eventually a crib… but honestly I might do a mini crib this time around because my other two were in twin beds by 12-18 months. It just worked better for us.

Skipping: sterilizer, changing table (or anything similar), diaper warmer, bottle warmer, diaper genie, baby brezza.
  • Maybe this is old school, but I think a baby memory book! My mom filled out my older brothers, but mine was empty. And I remember being so sad, that my book had nothing in it. So, I always said that if I was able to have kids, I would get a book and fill it out to the max!

I found a great one on Etsy, by nuts bolts paper. It is on the smaller side, but has great stuff in it. She also has options for single moms. You can add pages if you did an IUI, or IVF. And instead of saying mommy, or daddy, she often refers to parents.
  • Why are diaper genies on your no buy list?
  • As a mom of two, a good night’s sleep is key to taking care of your baby! These two products are must-buys:

Sleep Sack: Keeps your baby warm and safe, no more worrying about them kicking off the blankets.

Baby Monitor: This monitor is amazing! It alerts me if my baby cries at night, so I don’t have to worry about anything and can sleep soundly.

These two are my "nighttime helpers"—watching over my baby and giving me peace of mind to sleep well!

  • Diaper genes are just a glorified trash can. Infant diapers don’t really stink, we just toss them in the regular house trash. When they get bigger (and stinkier) I carry them straight out to our outdoor trash after changing if I’m worried about the smell in the house.
  • 2nd time mom to be here!

I ordered nursery furniture at 20 weeks and it arrived just before baby was born (did not need the crib or anything until later but I used the recliner SO much in the beginning when nursing).  I have a two story house and I found two changing "stations" - one on each floor - to be very helpful.  I don't mean two changing tables - literally just a mat, diapers, wipes, and burp cloths - it made things so easy!  I also found the Huckleberry app to be very helpful for tracking things like feedings, naps, and diaper changes until I got the hang of it - however, this is totally dependent on person though and I would only recommend if you use as a guide to track patterns because it is easy to become obsessive over it/the schedule!
  • I agree- a good rocker is a must for those overnight feedings.
  • Im not the original poster of the comment but I took skip on Diaper Genies, even with my first. The idea of having a special garbage can for dirty diapers never made sense to me. I just put them in the main garbage can. One less thing to have to worry about, no need for special bags, etc. I know a lot of mom's swear by it but for me it always seemed like a gimmick.

A few more must haves for those making lists! Seat protector for vehicles (inexpensive ones work fine). Mirror for baby in vehicle. STROLLER/CAR SEAT FAN!!!! Pacifier clip. Haaka with lid.
  • I wish I had put more burp cloths and footie PJs with zippers on my first registry. You think you have enough... until you're doing laundry every day.
  • Those who would skip bottle sterilizers, can I ask what your bottle cleaning process is?
  • I'm not getting a bottle sterilizer contraption... But I did add a couple of sterilizer bags that go on the microwave and are reusable. When I was a kid, bottles were boiled on the stove top, but they shouldn't touch each other, and if you can help it, they shouldnt touch the sides of the pot you're boiling them in either. There are probably way too many videos, etc on YouTube that you can check out. I'm going to do that as well!

I wash in hot soapy water (not much soap, and don’t waste your money on special bottle soap). Then I boil on the stove. I only worry about major sanitation the first 2-3 months. Then they get washed with the rest of the dishes/ in the dishwasher.
  • Hey guys, im a ftm and i want to get a bedside bassinet, but i hear u can only use them for like 9 months or so. What do i need to put baby to sleep in after that??

Whats with the multiple bottles? I dont really get it. Isnt one bottle enough, lol
  • Bassinet question - you typically go to a crib after the bassinet. We're renting a Snoo for 6 months and then moving to a crib that will eventually convert into a toddler bed.

Bottle question - newborns feed 8-12 times per day. I know my husband and I are not going to have 'wash and sanitize one bottle 8-12 times each day' energy. And even if we did, I would like to leave the house for longer than one feeding's length of time.
  • Bassinet Q: You could also do a pack n play or something similar. But, it might not be super comfy.
  • We got a travel system stroller/car seat combo and it was great, but I wish I’d also registered for a lighter everyday stroller. Lugging that big one around got old fast.
  • I am getting a travel system... What lighter stroller do you recommend? What do you use the heavier one for? Lighter one?

After the bedside bassinet baby can move to a crib.
A lot of people that work need more bottles than SAHMs. They need them for daycare, etc.
I do not wash bottles or pump parts after every use. Since I am almost always home, they go straight into the fridge (empty/“dirty”) when not in use, and get washed about once every 24hrs.
