trouble drinking water

Anyone else unable to drink a lot? I am so sick all the time that I don't have a desire to drink anything. Been doing small sips of water and ginger ale but nowhere near the 8-12 glasses a day. Most days idk if I even get 1 glass.

Re: trouble drinking water

  • This is me too. I also have a hyper-salivation thing going on, so my spit feels really syrupy and water makes me want to gag most of the time. I find milk (sometimes chocolate milk) goes down easier since it’s thicker. I also try Zevia which is carbonated and that seems to help a little. I can do water if it’s really hot (like for tea or hot chocolate) or sometimes if it’s very icy cold.

If you weren’t drinking that much water pre pregnancy, def don’t worry about it now. You just want to be drinking enough to not get dehydrated while you wait for your appetite to get back to normal. Watch for chapped lips or headaches to know you’re too low on fluids. If it gets super bad, your local ER can give you an IV fluid bag, or some areas have vans that will make home visits. Good luck to you in your pregnancy!!

  • Water and Ginger ale are the only two liquids I can drink and even then water is difficult especially if I’ve thrown up. Sometimes it makes me nauseous if I drink it.
  • I had this bad my last two pregnancies! My absolute lifesaver was a salty electrolyte mix. I used LMNT brand and it was the only way I could drink water without getting SO sick. I had been struggling to drink 8-10 oz of anything in a day, but the electrolytes helped a TON
  • I have this also. I've been mixing 1/4 lemonade and the rest water and it's refreshing and doesn't taste as plain and I'm able to get a little more down in a day.
  • this! I LOVE water but pregnant me hates it.
Drinking water has been such a pain and makes my nausea so much worse.
Mixing in cranberry, lemonade, ginger, whatever I can find. BUT it all has to be ICE cold.
Also, increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables, and brothy soups I’m eating has been a huge help.
  • I like those true lemon packets that you put in a water bottle. My favorite is wild berry lemonade. They're natural and sugar free.

Also, I drink it ice cold. I can't stomach room temp water while pregnant.
  • Pedialyte is a great way to hydrate. Apple juice is too and I usually add water to it to make it less sweet.
