1st Prenatal Appointment

Hi everyone!

I’m pregnant for the first time and have my first prenatal appointment tomorrow. I think there’s a wide range of experiences for the first appointment and I know I’ve been nervous trying to prepare for anything.

1) What week was your first appointment scheduled for?
2) What was covered during the appointment?
3) Was there anything asked you didn’t expect or know the answer to?

I’ll come back and answer after my own appointment!

Re: 1st Prenatal Appointment

  • 1) 8 weeks exactly
    2) Thorough medical history, especially around gynecological history and medications. Urine test & blood pressure taken, then I changed into a gown. The doctor started with a breast exam, then an abdominal ultrasound, then went on to do a transvaginal ultrasound, looked at my cervix, and did a pelvic exam. Baby was measured and confirmed to be the expected size, and the doctor took care to make sure everything looked normal and there was just 1 baby. Many blood tests were ordered and I received an outline of what appointments and tests to expect over the next couple of months.
    3) I didn’t expect to receive an abdominal ultrasound, and I was expecting to listen to the heartbeat but we didn’t.

Overall it took about an hour and went well!

  • My OB office can't get me in until I'll be 10w5d so thats a bummer. But we are doing weekly hcg monitoring since I've had 2 MC is the last year.
  • I got my first ultrasound in a private clinic at 6 weeks. My first OBGYN is scheduled for week 9.
  • We had our first apt yesterday and also didn't get to hear the heartbeat but I felt relieved just to see our little pea

Went for my first sonogram today.  7w6d.  They told me the baby is measuring 6w1d.  So now we’re headed for weekly sonograms to measure the baby to see if I just ovulated late or if the baby is smaller than it should be at this stage.  We saw him/her and heard the little heartbeat and it was amazing!  Fingers crossed baby bean is super healthy and developing normally.  🤞🏼🤞🏼
  • My first appointment was at 8w3d and they did ultrasound for confirmation first and confirmed it was where it should be. Then I saw the nurse practitioner and had my blood pressure taken and we talked about medical history and things to generally avoid or watch out for. She gave me a very informative packet full of things to look into about the hospital staff and classes they offer. She also asked if we wanted to know the gender and we said yes, so I go back in on May 7th when I'm 10w5d for blood work, to collect cultures and urine samples. I know every place does it a little differently.
