@watermelonsunshine I haven't heard of the Ollie swaddle, but some companies really bombard you with ads once the internet "knows" you're having a baby lol. It looks cute though! I feel like once baby is big enough they could easily wriggle out of that thing. But I bet it works well for a newborn!
The biggest lesson I learned with swaddles is that you have to trial and error to see what works best for baby. Some babies do really well with swaddles, and others sleep better without the swaddle. We tried a few brands and found that the Happiest Baby swaddles worked best for my son. But my advice would be to not spend a ton of money on several pairs until you know what brand works best.
Once my son was able to roll over on his own, and therefore we couldn't swaddle him anymore, we started using the Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit. I don't know what it is about that thing, but it truly is magic. My son slept really well in it. So I highly recommend it!!
For my first, I bought a bunch of different options at a baby consignment store. It was definitely worth it to find out what baby preferred (and what I preferred) without spending a lot of money. I prefer to use sleep sacks over swaddles because they are much easier for middle of the night diaper changes, especially when they zip from top to bottom or have a 2 way zipper.Â
Oh good point! I forgot how much I love the sleepers and sleep sacks that unzip from bottom to top so you don’t have to completely undress them for the middle of the night changes! Good reminder. Â
We had a few different phases with ours. Newborn was Velcro or zipper sleep sacks or swaddles, then we transitioned to the looser sleep sacks (like the Zipadee that goes over the hands), then we transitioned to a normal sleep sacks. Though, I think our last go around we just went from the swaddle to the traditional sleep sack.Â
I will say having at least two is nice. Can’t tell you how many times we’d have a blowout in the middle of the night or right before nap time and it was so nice to have a back-up while the other was in the wash.Â
Also! For the daycare moms, might not hurt to see what the sleep swaddle and sack requirements are (or sleep methods in general) with your provider. I don’t recall exactly, but I do remember we had to get an approval and negotiate sleep strategies a bit with our first wasn’t a big deal, just some extra conversations to get on the same page.Â
