Pre pregnancy I had a great routine and was going regularly. 5+ days a week. I’m struggle now to find rid energy and motivation to go. It’s just gone… anyone else? What keeps you pushing through?
I’m lifting 4-5x per week but am only 5 weeks pregnant and haven’t hit nausea and fatigue yet. I’m waiting for the wall. I can’t remember how I pushed through in my first pregnancy, though I was only working out twice a week then. I think it’s some combination of respecting when your body says it needs rest and keeping a longer term focus knowing you will turn a corner and have more energy soon.
I have been doing Orangetheory 3 days a week. I’m about to cut it to two. Because I use a heart rate monitor I just keep an eye on it and tone it way back. I’m only in my 6th week and most of my symptoms seem to be more prevalent at night.
I’m not a weight lifter but have a friend who lifted her whole pregnancy just modified as she felt comfortable. Staying with it is really hard especially on these exhausting weeks at the beginning, I’m trying to move my body 30 minutes a day even if it’s just stretching and it’s been reasonably doable. on Instagram @expecting and empowered and @mamastefit are great resources to help stay motivated and teach you what’s safe.
I think it’s best to listen to your body, especially during the first trimester. I used to be a fitness instructor and pre-natal yoga teacher and during my first pregnancy I physically could not work out almost my entire first trimester from fatigue and nausea. I prioritized walks if I could manage it and started back to weightlifting and yoga when I felt better. It was hard to not work out mentally but I figured it was better for my body to prioritize rest while I’m at the very early stages of creating a new organ and baby. If you’re able to continue weightlifting a day or two a week without feeling totally wiped out, that’s awesome and continue with that. If you can only find the energy to go walk around the block, that’s also great! I can only speak for myself and what worked for me, I know not everyone thinks this way, but my hopes are that everyone meets themselves with compassion and grace with the new adjustments during our first trimesters 🫶🏼
For those still doing heavy lifting and cardio, how’s it going for you? I’m at 8 weeks now and keeping up with 4 times a week most weeks but am increasingly feeling my heart beating so hard. I’ve been monitoring my heart rate and it’s generally 150-160 during activity and 130 during the 30-60 sec of rest between sets. I think this is fine? I don’t have my first appointment until mid March to ask my OB’s opinion.

Way to go! Sounds like you’re doing well. I think those numbers are good.
I was doing 5-6 days a week up until about 3 weeks ago. Between the nausea and getting sick two weeks ago I can’t seem to find any desire to go. When I finally get a few hours of feeling “okay” I feel like I need to use it doing house work. lol and by the time I’m done I’m back to being nauseous . 😅 I love that other mommas here are still making it work!
My OB said that you need to be able to be carrying a conversation at all times when working out. So it depends on what you’re used to & your oxygen capacity but most say 140-150 max.
Personally so envious & proud of all you mammas working out still! I’m proud of I get A walk around the block with my nausea & cold. I’m crying every day counting down till 12 weeks when I can stand in the shower & consistently wash my hair again.
I totally get that feeling—it can be so tough to find motivation after a big life change. Before pregnancy, I was in a solid routine too, and it’s hard when that energy isn’t there anymore. What really helps me is setting small, achievable goals and focusing on progress rather than perfection. Sometimes just getting to the gym is half the battle! Also, reading fitness blogs has been a huge motivator for me. They offer great tips, workout ideas, and stories from others who’ve been through the same struggles. It’s all about finding what keeps you inspired, even on the tougher days! 💪
