The crib we're using for my son is a hand-me-down that has been used for many babies over the years! We'll definitely be transitioning my son to a toddler bed before baby arrives, but I think I'd like to upgrade the crib. What brands are you all considering? Or do any of you STM+ have a crib you really like?
When we upgraded, we got the Babyletto Hudson crib, and it’s been amazing! It’s sturdy, stylish, and grows with the baby since it converts to a toddler bed.
I’d love to see what everyone’s travel/pack n play recommendations are! We went a bit overboard and are trying out the cradlewise crib, we fortunately have family who was willing to split the cost with us as a baby gift. Excited to see if it holds up to the hype.
We have a Graco Pack n Play: https://www.target.com/p/graco-pack-39-n-play-on-the-go-playard-kaden/-/A-87095661 It folds up easily for on-the-go. I also got a soft mattress insert for it, just to make it more comfortable. Although, for safe sleep, you technically wouldn't want to use the mattress. But my son just used it to play in when we needed to keep him contained!
For our bassinet, we had the Fisher Price Soothing Motions one: https://a.co/d/hKO35NU Sadly, my son slept barely a wink in it. As a newborn he would only sleep when held for both naps and overnight, so for the first 4 months of his life we did a combo of taking shifts overnight and co-sleeping, until we did sleep training at 4 months. I'm really hoping this baby likes his bassinet more than his brother did!!
I loved it because it folds up nice and small (for a baby bed) we travel a lot and I was able to fit it in our large suitcase, along with clothes and other baby things. I'll be using it for this next baby as well. We didn't need the mosquito net part of it, but I actually didn't mind having it in order to help block baby's view of the room a bit to help them not get distracted/sleep better.
For a crib, we just used a pack and play (Joie Commuter) until baby was a year old. It worked great for us and we didn't get a mattress insert or anything, just bought some sheets and a protector for the included insert. Baby slept really well in there at home, and still does when we need to travel (even though they can now escape 😅).
As I said, we travel quite a bit, so having options that travel well has really helped us and helped to make sleep when travelling easier because it's not something new, it's something familiar.
@linh18 just to check, do you mean you didn’t have an actual crib and the baby always slept in the pack and play every night? Not just for travels? If so, I am definitely going to look into that….I feel bad but we don’t really have space to make a true “nursery” and we don’t know where we would fit one of those big beautiful wooden cribs like you see. Thank you for sharing that.
@watermelonsunshine Yep, we just had a pack and play, no crib. It was the best for our family honestly. And it also was very safe. We didn't get any mattress inserts because they aren't always approved. Our kids all slept fine, no soreness or constant turning like they were uncomfortable.
@linh18 right?? And it really doesn't look or feel cheap in person so it's truly just an awesome deal 😊 I am just a little concerned about getting baby in and out cuz I'm really short lol but that's an issue with almost every crib I've seen.

That crib looks so cute! And such a reasonable price when you consider it's also a little dresser area.
