39 weeks and no signs of labor

Hi I am 39 weeks and due on 13th just waiting for labor 🙄 and this wait time is creating more of mixed emotions, anyone like me a FTM dealing with this.please give some suggestions

Re: 39 weeks and no signs of labor

  • 40+1, due date was yesterday, no signs either :(
it sounds impossible, but try to reimagine your due date as week 41. i felt super emotional yesterday as the due date came and went with no change, but am scheduled for an induction now at 41+1 and am refocusing my “finish line” on that day which really does feel a lot better.
in the meantime, treat yourself :) relax, read, watch tv, snack, you got this!

  • I had my first at 40 weeks 5 days! It’s common for first time moms to go late. It just means your body is doing a good job growing the baby!
  • Anyone considering a membrane sweep (or had one done previously)? I'll be 39+6 for my appt tomorrow and am thinking about doing it if I'm dilated enough. Know it's normal to go late but I'm hoping to avoid an induction and my OB will only let me go to 41+3. Figured I'd give it a shot!
  • I haven’t, but my friend did last week at 39+2 and while it brought on some contractions they stopped overnight. She said the sweep was uncomfortable but you can breathe through it. Could be worth a try but if baby’s not ready to come it’s no guarantee
  • 4th time mom here and I’ve never had a baby before or by my “due date”. I wish they would rename that phrase to “guess date” because that’s really what it is, a guesstimate. Truth is, baby will come when baby is ready and not a moment sooner (without intervention). I recently read something about how baby’s lung development is what kick start labor so when baby’s lungs are fully developed and ready to breathe air, a hormone or something is released which h starts labor. So try to think of it as baby is just growing stronger and that why they’re still in there. Good luck mama! I know how hard the waiting game is but every baby and every mom gestates differently.
