1st Trimester

Upcoming appointment

Hello everyone,
I have made an appointment for myself, I’m in the two week wait, I’m not serial tester because the thought of constantly seeing a negative the past few months saddens me.
I was on birth control when I was in graduate school, afterwards we decide to start trying. I am aware that BC can affect the trying process sometimes, so we kept that in mind.
The past two weeks I had really early cramps, my BBT felt raised, I was 60 weather felt like 75 degrees to me, later on started to feel nauseous. I test 2/1/25 it was negative, tested 2/2/24- negative, when I got back into town. I vomited the first time that night which was so weird bc I don’t get nauseous during my period. Today I had been spotting brown and my cycle started 2/8/24, so I’m expecting my cycle to come /:

Because of continuing to receive negative tests, the discussion for infertility testing is on the table.
Had anyone gone through this discussion ? How long after BC did you get a positive test ?

Re: Upcoming appointment

  • How are you monitoring your cycle? Are you aware of when ovulation is taking place? Just curious because it helps to pinpoint when to test. It helps to avoid unnecessary negative tests.

  • Loading the player...
  • I’m using an app to help w my cycles, sometimes they’re short because stress (or whatever reason)  so I like it to be notated. I feel like by now when it says it’s around that time I can tell my body is going through it.
I got my BC In late sept early October.
  • it can still be BC, so I’m just want to be sure things are copacetic with both of us.
  • You should look into how to identify when your fertile window opens and closes. Otherwise, you could easily miss your window. Some women don’t ovulate at all right after coming off of HBC. Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a great book that is full of helpful information. It’s a super quick read too.

I have never taken HBC so I have no experience with how long it takes for cycles to level out getting off of it. Good luck!
  • I’d start taking ovulation test to make sure you are ovulating and when. Also infertility depends on age and how long you have been trying. A lot of places won’t see an issue till 6 months- 1 year. I was on hbc and we got our first positive 5 months but I didn’t track ovulation till 3 or 4 months out
  • When I went to my OBGYN last year or the year before, we discussed when I’d like to stop taking my BC and she explain that because how long I had been on it and how long it long it can possibly take to get pregnant.
whenever we decided I can stop my BC and if I hadn’t became pregnant with a certain time frame after that it was good for me make this current appt.
It’s a been about 5.5 months. I’m in the beginning process of trying. So no ovulation tests have been taken.

  • i do highly recommend ovulation tests. Easy to buy at the store. I would have started using them the first month if I’d known they existed then. You could also do temping. Best of luck. I know TTC is frustrating, we grow up being told you can get pregnant so easily when in reality that really isn’t the case and can take normal couples up to a year.
