This will probably be the last weekly Check-in I post here (anyone else can feel free to start it) as I'll be using the private group more leading up to our birth month! I'll keep checking in for any requests to join the private group so don't be shy!
Re: Weekly check-in 1/27
I met a local Toronto celebrity named Sean Desmond! He had a huge hit called “shook” when I was in the 8th grade and we were obsessed with him (it’s a banger and he now is making a comeback on the Canadian music scene if anyone wants a fun listen, lolololol). I worked at American Eagle in high school and he shopped there, I was his cashier. He was so nice and kind when I asked him if it was him that end of the transaction. He gave me a nod and a wink, the 8th harder inside me fainted! Haha. My husband is a huge fan of the Canadian band, the Tea Party and I have met them with him a bunch of times.
in 2023 in NYC, i made eye contact with John Hamm outside of a cafe! We locked eyes for a minute and I realized who he was and also internally freaked out ahaha.

Baby is the size of a (an): bunch of Celery
Team blue/pink/green: green
Upcoming Appointments: I'm supposed to have a regular OB next Tues but they called to change it and idk when it was rescheduled for
How are you feeling?: still nauseous. Heart burn is kicking up again. My kids are disrupting my sleep more than usual
Rants/Raves: my sense of smell is in overdrive and contributing to my nausea.
Questions:
Did I ask what pump everyone is getting?
GTKY: Have you ever met anyone famous?
My mom won meet and greet tickets to Josh Turner back when I was in high school. And I saw (but didn't meet) David Beckham in the Rome airport lol
And I feel you on pregnancies being completely different and not knowing what to expect. This one for me is so different than my first 2 I feel like a ftm again
This time around I have a different midwife. My baby measured 13th percentile at 22 weeks and I haven't had another ultrasound since then. But I plan to have another one done before delivery because my first baby measured the same at 22 weeks and I didn't have another ultrasound and she was born at 5th percentile at 38+5 because of pre-eclampsia. Different complication this time, but I can't help but worry. So I'm trying to be more honest this time around and my fasting number has been around 110 but my midwife isn't concerned - very different from the last practice I was with- she's been saying stress, lack of hydration, and other factors are likely causing my out-of-range fasting numbers and everything should be fine since I'm otherwise diet-controlled. I know I can choose to transfer care. I just haven't done it yet... I was supposed to have an appointment last week but I got sick and my next appointment is next week.
rant: I wish I started calling pediatricians offices earlier to pick one, I have a few appointments set up for the next few weeks but it’s also my last few weeks at work and just cramming it all in feels like a lot. Also all pediatricians in LA have a yearly concierge fee on top of billing insurance that is paid out of pocket which is just bananas and only something that we have to do in LA. My OB also has a concierge fee
rave: magnesium spray on my back/hips and calves before bed, I need to order more. I’ve also been seeing a prenatal chiropractor/acupuncturist weekly which has been great for my hip pain and overall discomfort. It’s out of pocket and eats into my work day but it’s very helpful. She’s also a mom of 5 so I ask her questions about everything too.
@ksd20 I got the spectra (the blue one) through my insurance and then I think I’ll buy the Elvie or momcozy portable with my registry discount after birth depending on how my feeding journey goes. My mom is a lactation consultant which is going to be KEY in feeding my first baby.
I've only heard great things about Spectra pumps and a lot of positives about the mom cozy too! I have a 6 year old old medela PISA and a 4 year old willow. Surprisingly my willow turned on and charged when I pulled it out the other day. Gotta try the medela. One of the moms in my F19 BMB is an IBCLC with aeroflow and she said there's lots of new pumps coming out in the next few months so hopefully I'll be able to wait for her reviews and see how my old pumps are working before I need to decide on a new one
also David Beckham 😍
it’s actually freaking me out that they want to do weekly ultrasounds, makes me feel like something is wrong that they are not explaining so I hope I get some answers tomorrow. If not, I’m trying to be as zen as I can. DD Was 8lbs 15oz so I expected an even bigger baby this time, I’m thrown for a loop! I think we use different blood sugar measurements in Canada, but fasted numbers here should be between 4.0-5.2, and I’ve been 5.6 like consistently. I’m titrating insulin up and the endocrinologist was happy with my other numbers this AM.
i understand the stress! It’s a lot to manage, we also feel behind and are panicking and organizing our house. We have to fish out all of our baby items we shoved at the bottom of the stairs 3-4 years ago and reorganize our whole storage room To fit our Peleton bike since it’s in the office/guest room, which we are turning into DD’s room ASAP. Baby will have DDs nursery, which we can easily convert back to full nursery so I’m not stressed about that. But we have SO MUCH TO DO AHHHH! I just picked up a barely used uppababy bassinet for the stroller for 1/3 the price (we didn’t have one for our Cruz since we had a March 2020 baby and were too afraid to leave the house until she was 3 months, what a time it was!). I also sold my halo swivel bassinet last pregnancy since I didn’t want to store that massive thing and made a profit! I bought a barely used one again for 1/3 the cost of a new one also the other day, so phew - at least we have that going for us.
I've also been keeping an eye out for an uppababy bassinet because I got a stroller 2nd hand with DD and then hardly used it because she too was a 2020 baby who didn't go anywhere lol I just live in to rural of an area that there aren't many local
