Re: Weekly Check-in 1/20
rave: even with all the chaos above, Iโm still just a little bubble of joy. Im so happy and thankful for what Iโm going through and wouldnโt have it any other way. Hopeful for some pockets of peace soon.ย
Iโd love to be better at gardening! Iโve done vegetable gardens before, which come out okay (especially the tomatoes), but Iโm not great with flower gardens/potted flowers.
You might already know all this! Itโs just what came to mind.
Rave - now that my boss knows I've been telling all my coworkers I'm pregnant, so fun and nice having everyone around me be excited too!
It has been kind of a tougher week. I slipped on some ice and fell backwards and hit my head and backโฆthe fall did hurt and I was concerned about if it could affect the baby, but all is well. Then the next day I started feeling sick and tested positive for COVID. Thankfully it should all be fine โบ๏ธ, but I feel pretty worn out. I also feel a little discouraged because Iโve been doing my best to avoid unnecessary risks (like I didnโt go sledding to avoid falling, and I didnโt go to a big gathering where I knew there was a higher covid riskโฆ. but then I fell on the sidewalk, and probably got covid from the grocery store lol lol)
I donโt know why, but I always thought it would be cool to ride a unicycleย
Flash forward to now. My nose runs uncontroably, and I'm also coughing, sneezing and gagging on saliva/mucous. Just a bit annoyed because I'm pretty sure where I got it from. She's normally great but getting sick right when I'm starting to feel better it's a bit too much for me.
How to ID mushrooms. It would be cool to me too be able to ID and eat wild mushrooms. I studied botany so I'm familiar with most local plants but mushrooms are something I've never had the time to study indepth.ย
I made my registry on Amazon with both my first 2 kids. Registry for baby #2 was mostly for myself/grandparents but the bonus is they give discounts for purchasing certain baby items within a certain amount of months from your due date. It helped me get better deals, even when I was just buying off my own list and no one else was. You can add anything, not just baby items, though only certain items will get the discount.ย
Rave - I *think* Iโm starting to feel baby! I had a massage laying on my stomach this week and there was definitely something going on in there.ย
Randomly got the desire to learn to make homemade bagels, so Iโm going to try and make time to do that! Nesting symptoms probably ๐
Rant: Like so many others mentioned, I am over the winter, I canโt wait for warmer weather to return.
Rave: I am so excited to see my little bump forming! My husband is already speaking to our little guy every night (even though I donโt think they can hear at this stage haha). It just makes everything feel so real.
I taught myself to knit a few years ago and I can now knock out a scarf pretty quickly but I have never successfully created a hat or sweater. I want to knit the baby a little blanket but itโs been a struggle. My goal this year is to improve my knitting skills and make a beanie and a blanket for the little guy.ย
I've flown with my first two at 2 and 3 months old. They were great. The key is just to nurse (or bottle feed) a lot, especially during take off and landing. My first didn't take a paci, but my second did and they were both equally content. I would recommend noise cancelling earmuffs for the kiddo though, I think it helped them sleep better and also with the pressure changes. I just bought mine off Amazon "hearmuffs" We also put our babies in a wrap/carrier during the flight (not during take off or landing).ย
We brought toys that they could hold/put in their mouths and toy sanitizing wipes to wipe them off when they would fall and wipe off other surfaces. Our flights were 10 hours so it was a long stretch, but our kids slept a lot or nursed. The flight attendants are really great in my experience.ย
Also bring extra clothes in your carry on for the kid and an extra shirt for mom or dad. And more diapers than you think you will need! Bonus is little baggies for poopy diapers, we bought a box of scented ones but they lost their scent quickly and didn't really help. Isolating the dirty diaper is the key thing! It also came in handy to have one to throw baby's soiled clothes in.ย
I'd also recommend getting them used to being in a carrier before you are on the airplane (like in the week that leads up to your flight). Some kids love it and some kids need more time to adjust, on an airplane is not usually the best time to try something new.ย
Rant- no one has any openings in our area for childcare, so our current plan is to make things work till our peanut is 6 months (toggling the responsibility while we both work from home) and then pray something opens up; wait lists are a year and a half.
Rave- my husband is doing a great job hearing all my emotions ๐ He's going to make an excellent girl dad!
Anyone have more than 3 servings of fish per week? We are babymooning in Hawaii and beef and pork are not my friends and chicken is just so so to me.
