3rd Trimester

Asking a family member to babysit

I'm in my 3rd trimester and only get 8 weeks of maternity leave. My MIL has offered to watch my son once I go back to work. Has anyone had a grandma babysit their infant? How do you bring up compensation for that? The idea is that having her babysit saves us $$ by not having to use a daycare but I feel she may expect/need to be paid. (She is currently retired and at home during the day so she's not losing $ once she starts to babysit)

You may be able to be reimbursed for paying her, possible tax exemption, and you could pay her less than a daycare, I advise check your maternity leave institution on this. Or your insurance provider. Good luck 👍
