if it’s anything to do with congestion or something like that, I use the Neti Pot to help clear things out.

How are you feeling?: Back is starting to hurt with a vengeance. My husband got me a massage gift card for Christmas which I am so grateful for. The baby has also “popped” and is making my core really sore which is not great. Less tired which is good though! Trying to stay positive

Rants/Raves: Heartburn and indigestion are literally the bane of my existence right now. I cannot eat anything without getting them. I am trying out Pepsid now- was able to manage with my son with almond milk and antacids but they aren’t touching it this time. It makes eating so miserable- really hope she comes out with a ton of hair!!

Questions: Anyone else after the anatomy scan feeling like the baby is going to be here any day only to realize we still have like 4-5 months? Idk why but that’s hitting me so hard this pregnancy!

GTKY: I mainly focus on staying hydrated while sick. I will drink tea, flavored water, etc. to make sure that I’m drinking enough. It’s something my mom always hammered in when I was a kid and it stuck lol.

  • DD / Weeks + Days: 5/15 20 weeks

Upcoming Appointments: had my 20 week this week, and next week anatomy scan. Also booked a childbirth class, breastfeeding class and childbirth center tour all for March.

How are you feeling?: mostly great. I’m looking forward to a break from the holiday feasting. My gut needs a timeout.

Rants/Raves: I am pretty sold on getting a doula but my husband is not 100% into it. He wants to be my only support and he’s clinical (and has delivered babies) so I get it I just would like for him to see that there’s value in more support.

Questions: anybody else getting belly button pain?

GTKY: seems like so many things are going around! Let's share our favorite go to when we are sick! Maybe we will all get some good ideas

chamomile tea with honey and oat milk. It’s what got me through the first trimester yuck and 2 pregnancy colds already.
  • @ajeff1121 my first two I had doulas and was sooooo thankful even though they both ended up in a c-section. I put it to my first Husband like this... "I want someone there who I don't have to worry about taking care of me. If your my only support, I'm going to be more focused on how you're doing as apposed to my labor which will throw everything off, and at some point you're going to need a break. This is OUR Doula and she Is there to support you as well as me.
My second was with my second husband and he didn't care, just wanted what I wanted.
    Some other benifits I got:
    - pictures of the birth at my c-section. No way would I have gotten the amazing photos I did without her
    - Pre-labor support to go over any fears
    - post partum visits where I coukd ask questions
    - texting questions all throughout

The doula is there primarily day of, but is such a help before and after too. If I could afford one this go around I would 100% hire one again. The Pic is from my last one, it won't let me share from my first for some reason.

  • I would also like to say doulas are great! My husband ended up being super panicky during labor and forgot like 90% of the support class!  She was a calm presence and helped me with labor positions because all the ones I expected to work were not helping me progress. Sadly there are also few options where I live so I found out there aren’t any available this pregnancy but I hope the midwives will be way more support.

My doula also took pictures which I love having! I have one right after he was born that still gives me chills ❤️ if that’s an option I would absolutely say it’s worth the money!
  • Thank you @gravcass and @cuveema12-23 !! I decided that my hubs can be “daddy doula” if that’s what he really wants but I gave him a lot of homework because I’m hoping to go unmedicated. I still think I would feel more comfortable having one but I understand his perspective, I’m just going to lean in to him wanting to do it all.
  • @ajeff1121 A different way that my husband and I looked at it when I had a doula with my first was she was my contingency plan. Before the birth, I had talked through all my wishes for best and worst case scenario things with both my husband and doula there (my doula also made sure they were all written down). In the event that our baby was born, and me and the baby needed to be split for either or both of us to get further care, my husband was to go with the baby and I would still have a second person with me who knew my wishes as well in case I needed anything. Just another way of thinking about a doula, they definitely aren’t replacing your husband, just making sure you feel as prepared as you can for something as unpredictable as giving birth!
  • @rlindqui16 yes this!!!! Should anything happen it was nice to know baby and I would both have someone. I have hears so many heartbreaking stories where either mom or dad or baby had no one. I have my aunt acting as doula this go around, and I trust her to act in my best interests and wishes.
  • I had a not great doula who ended up leaving when she heard I was getting a C-section, so when my son and I both needed care, my husband went with our son and I was alone for a while. Luckily I was working with midwives, and since the midwives don't do the surgery, she sat by my head and calmed me down while my husband was with my son. Definitely get your doulas about long labors and c sections. I wish I had.
  • @mcmanda4321 that is such a great point! If you go with a doula, have a thorough list of expectations. I did the same thing this time with the midwife group i went through. There are also some great podcast episodes/ articles on red flags for providers and doulas.  The last thing you want is to be let down right when you’re having a baby!
