Upcoming Appointments: Regular OB 12/20 and i need to go do my 1hr glucose sometime
How are you feeling?: I kinda feel dumb for this but I just realized the other night I've been having Braxton hicks contractions for a couple of weeks. It started out as a stretching across my belly which really felt like baby was transverse and just pushing out across my lower abdomen. Well Thursday I was more active than I have been and that evening I was having more BH and it finally dawned on me. So strange how much different this pregnancy has been compared to my first 2
Rants/Raves: DS1 (almost 6yo) just outgrew his carseat and now i have to figure out what kinda carseat shuffle I want to do. He's fine in our main car (van) but DH has an acura rdx and fitting 3 across will be tight/impossible
Questions: i know lots of us have been in and out over the course of this pregnancy. Any thoughts on moving to a private board before a switch to a private fb group?
GTKY: what are some non-pregnancy specific products that have helped you this pregnancy? I love my wooden shower bench. For shaving my legs, washing my hair or just sitting under the shower spray after a long day. Also the squatty potty for more practical use lol
How are you feeling?: Great. Things have been smooth. Baby boy is kicking a lot and it brings me so much joy. The only symptom that hasn’t been great lately is that I feel like I overheat/ have hot flashes randomly. But it’s not daily. OB says I just probably need more electrolytes so I’ll be incorporating Gatorade into my diet more often
Rants/Raves: everyone at work comments on how my belly is so small and I don’t look 27 weeks. They mean it sweetly but it’s a little annoying and makes me a little insecure. I feel big and love my belly bump. My family also thinks my belly is growing and that helps reassure me.
Questions: Anybody picked a pediatrician yet? Curious about how to go about choosing one.
GTKY: what are some non-pregnancy specific products that have helped you this pregnancy?
Shea butter is a life saver and great moisturizer. Love using it more than lotion. Helps keep the belly moisturized, helps with stretch marks, and it also relieves aches.
Upcoming Appointments: the 18th for regular OB visit. We decided to do a 3D scan for fun so I can’t wait to see what baby looks like!
How are you feeling?: pretty good. Still very drains but that may be because of the toddler. I feel very pregnant already and I don’t remember feeling this way until a couple weeks before birth with my first.
Rants/Raves: my toddler hasn’t napped in her crib since before thanksgiving and it is killing me. I stopped nursing in early November and that’s the only thing that has changed! She will sleep on me no problem and nighttime sleep is as smooth as ever. She just will not sleep in her crib!!!! I don’t know why!? I don’t know if I have any raves this week 😕
Questions: I’m literally due March 1st so I may be ahead of the game here but how prepared is everyone? We have the bassinet in our room but the nursery is untouched. I just did my first load of bassinet sheets and some miscellaneous baby items!
GTKY: what are some non-pregnancy specific products that have helped you this pregnancy? We all had a cold last week and I bought a bunch of cold things for the family while I was hovering over the humidifier lol. That and pedialyte were a life saver. I’m too scared to take any medicine while pregnant.
@ttbird29, I’ll be using the same pediatrician my daughter currently sees but when I was a first time mom I had such anxiety over picking one! The best one in the area wasn’t accepting new patients and then 2 months before I gave birth they started taking on new patients so I called immediately! They’ve all just said to call when the baby is born and they will schedule an appointment within a couple days. I think as long as they are accepting new patients there’s not much you have to do until baby is here! I just googled all the practices close to me (you definitely want a convenient location since you’ll be there often in the beginning) and read reviews everywhere. Googled specific doctors too but I may have gone overboard haha.
Rants/Raves: I'm using a cgm to monitor blood sugar and I like having a cgm this time but I hate gd. I joined GestationalDiabetes group on Reddit and that's been a comfort to me. My fasting number is good more often than not but I know it's going to get harder around 32-37 weeks. I had pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy, no complications with my second pregnnacy, and GDM with this one and my last one.
Questions: Anyone else feel like the days get so much slower the farther along you are?
GTKY: what are some non-pregnancy specific products that have helped you this pregnancy? I don't know. My bed so that I can sleep?
@ksd20 I choose to not have Facebook but am on-board for a private group if that's available for me as well. (I'm pretty new here)
Shower bench sounds great.I sit to do many things now, as is normal for me at the end of pregnancy. Folding laundry, showering, brushing my and my children's hair, pretty much anything I don't have to reach far for.
@ttbird29 I had a great pediatrician for my first baby. Second baby, I switched and it was a nightmare. I went back to the first pediatrician and after I had my third baby I only brought her there 1 time. This time I want to ask a functional wellness doctor if she can be our newborn's pediatrician. I have all my children see her for yearly checkups, but I don't know if she's cool with doing the newborn thing. I interviewed pediatricians in our area to find that 1st one that I liked. And the next ones I mentioned were recommended to me by other people. I just have the most values and beliefs in common with the functional wellness provider. The second one that I said was a nightmare, was convinced I was lying about feeding my children because of how small in height and weight they are. So I had my oldest do a lot of bloodwork with an endocrinologist and we discovered my children's weight and height were inaccurately recorded, and all the endocrinologist tests came back that my child is in good health. And his opinion is that my children will be petite like our family, and likely won't rise above 4"10-4'11". We were surprised, but definitely felt frustrated from all the grief from the pediatrician. And that pediatrician did not give records even though me and the nect doctor even went in person to retrieve them. I think they knew they had messed up. But I agree with Paige, don't get too consumed in it. If the relationship isn't what you want or something seems off at any point, you can switch and you should never feel bad or guilty for choosing to explore your options even after deciding on one.
@paigemm23 I'm pretty well prepared. We hope to get the infant carseat at the baby shower, but if not that's alright. We have one, it's just worn from years of use. My baby is due March 29. My children were born Feb 24, March 13, and March 23 so we have all the clothes we need for the correct seasons/sizes and will get diapers after the baby shower if needed.
Upcoming Appointments: 12/27, and then every 2 weeks
How are you feeling?: achy, it’s been hard to get comfortable, winded often. So many kicks and so often and strong. It’s so cool to feel him often. Anxious about a lot, no time to pick a pediatrician with my busy work schedule, I feel like I’m behind on classes and books, nursery is barely set up we still need to paint. My brain is a mess and I’m so tired.
Rants/Raves: my theragun for hip pain has been incredibly helpful I use it most nights. Also epsom salt bath when my back is aching
Questions: what is your maternity leave like? I’m going to take 2 weeks off before my due date and then 12 weeks but it doesn’t feel like enough
GTKY: what are some non-pregnancy specific products that have helped you this pregnancy? body oil on damp skin after the shower. My theragun!
@paigemm23 I’d say we are pretty unprepared. We have a bassinet in a box and a stroller in a box. A random bunch of hand me down clothes but there’s so much we don’t have and barely anything purchased from our registry. No car seats have been purchased. We have SO much to organize and piles everywhere. Mentally not prepared for birth at all, if he were to come now it would be do able but it wouldn’t be ideal
@allfacestheoaks I’m kinda in the same boat especially clothes wise!! I pick up diapers when I see a good deal or sale though! do you find it overwhelming having all the birthdays so close? My first was born February 21st and I’m due March 1st and I have been so worried about them being so close! I’m really not sure why, I’m probably just overthinking it but I stress about having two February birthdays in general if baby was to come early😅
@eclaire90 my leave is the same just 12 weeks and it sucks! I work for a European company too so I know all the moms at HQ get a way better deal! I’m planning on using PTO on top of it but stacking it at the end. I don’t know if it’s truly possible to be mentally ready for the birth of your first baby if that makes you feel better haha! I don’t think I’m mentally ready for my second - I had a Charley horse in my leg the other night and it made me want to cry and then I just thought about how I’m going to get through another labor 😂 you still have time to get everything together, but I would prioritize getting ready before baby comes. Everything was a blur for a month or two for me but I was in the baby bubble 🤍 I didn’t want to do anything other than stare at her all day!
@paigemm23 I was stressed being due with my second baby within 2 weeks of my 1st baby's birthday because of wanting to make birthday plans for her. But on her birthday I had a terrible headache, which I was having daily postpartum with my second baby, and my mother was so sweet she sent balloons and cupcakes for my daughter to enjoy on her birthday. That night we went to a friend's house for dinner. I was 10 days postpartum and totally not social but everyone was very kind and understanding. So, this baby is due within a week after my first child's birthday, and the day after both my husband and my mother's birthday. :-) I don't feel stressed about it. This is the way life has happened for me and I'm okay with it. My first two kids have had shared birthdays but they've asked me to let them have their own from now on so we'll try to do that for them. We'll just take life as it comes each year and try to make sure everyone feels loved and has their own special day but if we can't make it happen every year, that's alright. This is just how life has turned out for us. Hopefully I can help them have a good perspective on the years they share a party.
@ttbird29 we got our pediatrician because her mom is one of my husband's patients lol. They work for the local hospital network and we knew we would be going there for all medical stuff. She's also youngish and from this area so we don't need to worry about her retiring or moving away.
@paigemm23 I'm due 3/15 but both other kids came 2 weeks early so I'm hoping this is a March baby and not a February baby. That being said we got the big kids moved over to their new room and the nursery set back up with the crib, glider, and dresser with changing pad. The bassinet is in there too until baby is born and will be in our room for probably 6ish months. We're lucky in that we don't *need* any new baby gear or clothes. I do need to get a booster seat for DS1 as he's outgrown his Extend2Fit and we're planning on using that for baby instead of buying a new infant bucket car seat (ours expired, so any STM+ here's your friendly reminder to check carseat expirations)
@eclaire90 so i work parttime for a school intermediate unit (basically a company that supports several districts/counties) and don't have vacation or company leave. I'm taking 12 weeks unpaid FMLA with a short term disability paying for 6 weeks of that. But because we have a funny work schedule I basically get 4 months off and will go back to work in July (then have Aug off until school starts again). With my first 2 I don't think I ever felt ready to go back but once getting back to work there were aspects I appreciated (adult conversation, warm lunch, peeing by myself lol)
I'll look into creating a private bump group. Maybe try to transition there in the new year?? Then we can look to share more pics of nurseries, bumps, our families, and talk birth stories. I know I've become much more wary of oversharing in public forums (which this is and there's no way to know who's lurking 👀)
