4th Trimester

Hey mamas!
Now that baby is here for many of us, how are YOU doing?
How is your physical health progressing?
Any weird postpartum symptoms you weren’t expecting that you want to rant about?
How is your mental health holding up?
Anyone want to chime in with some helpful tips for enduring these crazy body and hormone shifts?

Re: 4th Trimester

  • All in all, I’m hanging on there. Days are going well and evenings/nights are a bit more of a struggle.
For me as a FTM I didn’t experience incontinence during pregnancy so I didn’t expect it postpartum. I’m changing out my pads all the time not from bleeding, but from peeing every time I sit, stand, roll over, walk.
Also, night sweats and shakes are really bad for me. I wake up in the night and have to rely on my husband to take care of baby during most of the overnight shifts because I don’t trust myself to hold him when I’m shaking that badly. Not fun, but I have a great partner who would do anything for me and our boy.
The mental health side is ok during the day, but it’s like a switch flips when the sun sets. Everything intensifies and it doesn’t matter what the emotions are, it’s just too much to manage and I cry uncontrollably for a little while. I’m talking lots with my support network of family and friends and will likely also connect with some postpartum therapy too.

  • @mamahen521 that feeling when the sun sets is the “night time scaries”. It’s totally normal! Mom of 5 and still get it here and there.
