I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not to do a membrane sweep at 38 weeks. I had my membranes swept at 39 weeks with my son and it did nothing for me.Â
Anyone have experiences (good or bad) with membrane sweeps?Â
I'm going for the membrane sweep this week as I am scheduled for induction on Monday next week. I'd rather try a gentle induction first if there's a chance it can work. It didn't work for me last time, but it was scheduled the day before the induction. It worked for my sister a few years ago with her son. It usually takes 24 to 48h for labors to start after the sweep if it was successful. It's up to you.
I had my membranes swept once. Didn’t do a thing but make me uncomfortable during and immediately after the procedure. The other 2 pregnancies I declined because my cervix was closed and high and it would’ve been too painful and not worth it.Â
I declined a cervix check and a membrane sweep this time around. Just gonna opt to go when I go. If I somehow make it to 41 weeks I’ll definitely try all the things, including a sweep, before a traditional/medical induction.Â

It's up to your preference! There is the risk of breaking your waters when they do it and then they'll want to REALLY induce you, NC it leaves you more susceptible to infection. Especially the more go up there.Â
I personally like to just let nature unfold if possible. You'll have an easier time with labor if your cervix is ready on its own imo.
Wednesday's membrane swipe didn't seem to have work for me as almost 48h have passed. I'm a bit bummed as I would have like to experience a gentle induction without pitocin, but it seems it won't be the case.
@knottied9132d1c78161fb1 Deciding whether to have a membrane sweep can certainly be a tough choice, especially considering your previous experience. While some women report positive outcomes, such as labor starting soon after the procedure, others find that it doesn't lead to any changes. It’s important to weigh your options based on your current situation and preferences.
