We’re almost halfway through November! Who has had their babies yet??
My little guy was born just over 24 hours ago via emergency c-section. It was a VERY hectic delivery but went as smoothly as it could have and we’re both doing great!
I lost my mucus plug Sunday and started having some very mild contractions. With my two others, I had them within 48 hours of losing the plug, so I called the nurse line for advice and told them there’s no way I’ll make it to my scheduled c-section date on the 15th. The consulting nurse couldn’t do much obviously, but I was hoping I’d make it to my pre-op (scheduled yesterday morning) so I could plead for my date to be moved up. Instead I ended up in triage with contractions at midnight! But, as soon as I got there the contractions stopped, they checked me and I was at 0cm dilation. Two hours later there was no progress, so they sent me home.
I asked them to please move my scheduled date up again but got a firm no, they don’t schedule c sections prior to week 39. Didn’t matter that both my previous kids came early and fast, or that I did have obvious labor signs. I told them “I’ll see you for my emergency c section sometime this week then”, and we went back home.
As soon as we got home, contractions ramped up. I did not feel like going back in just to be turned away again, besides it was 3am and both H and I were beyond exhausted, so we went to bed. Contractions just got stronger though! Eventually I decided we needed to go, there was no way this wasn’t real labor. When we returned to the hospital the contractions had cranked up from manageable to excruciating and only 3 min apart, so I started to panic a little. The nurse checked me and I had basically gone from zero to 8cm dilation between 2am and 8am!
When she said 8cm, the triage room was suddenly filled with people prepping me for the OR and they somehow had baby out 30 min later. They worked SO fast! It was a really surreal experience and I didn’t have time to process everything that was happening but overall it was totally fine. Seeing my boy initially was so weird, it didn’t feel like he came out of me the same way as my other two, but obviously he did! And he’s the best, chillest baby. I spent all night soaking in newborn snuggles. He’s latching well, passing all his tests, plenty of diapers.
I’m really sore, c-section recovery is definitely more demanding than recovery after a vaginal delivery, but hopefully tomorrow I’ll feel good enough to go home. I miss my big kids so much and I can’t wait for all three of them to be together!

Congratulations @etnya this is such exciting news! Even though things didn’t go to plan, it sounds like things moved pretty quickly and smoothly for you and your new little boy! So happy for you.
I’m 39+3 and still waiting. I’m only 1 cm dilated and I was taking that to mean that it will be several more days before baby comes, but your story proves that isn’t necessarily true. I’m hoping labor starts this week on its own, otherwise it is induction on 11/20
@etnyah Congratulations. I wish it had been a more peaceful birth for you but I'm glad it all was straight forward if a bit rushed.
They are so fast when they decide that you're going to have a c-section. I think my call to cut was less than 20min.
I remembered that a friend of mine used a rope/sheet attached to the end of the bed to help her get up after a c-section. This is especially good if you have a bedside sleeper and you have to shuffle down as well as over.
I'm 38w+4 no sign of baby yet. This is my first week of maternity leave and I'm glad of it because I've just been so tired. I've got another growth scan and a midwife apotintment on Thursday. 🤞Hoping for a uneventful apotintment as that was when I got admitted for 10 days with my second son.
Thank you, both! And yeah @mamahen521, dilation progress and when labor will start is such a guess, some people walk around dilated several cm for weeks and some go from zero to 10 in a matter of hours, it’s impossible to know! I hope labor starts for you soon so you don’t have to be induced!
@cornichonmam 20 min! Wow, that’s quick. And yeah, I’ll definitely need something to help me get out of bed. I think I’m being discharged today and I have no idea how to get in and out of a regular bed, ha. So glad you’re able to rest at home for a bit while waiting for baby! Fingers crossed everything looks good at your appt, a 10 day hospital stay does not sound fun.

Congrats @etnyah ! I’ve been sent home from triage with 2 of my previous pregnancies because I wasn’t dilated enough. It’s the most frustrating thing! Glad baby is here and all is well. So excited for you.
And for anyone that wants to: we have a stickied birth announcements/birth stories thread at the top of our BMB that way your announcement isn’t lost in another thread.
Sending all the best to my fellow Nov mommas still expecting, like me! 😆
39+1 today. I didn't get admitted at my appointment on Thursday thankfully. It wasn't straightforward though, babies weight has apparently really excelerated in the last two weeks. The head and femur measurement were on track it's just the abdomen measurement that was a lot bigger. Which meant estimated weight went from the 50th centile to the 80th.
Also baby was oblique with her head slightly on my left rather than straight down. They kept mentioning it but also didn't seem that concerned 🤷♀️. I did notice that on the baby week by week on the bump it said the baby might be in an oblique lie this week, and the doctor said that it's unlikely baby will engage until labour as it's my third. She's still quite movable so the doctor just gave her a gentle push and she was straight again.
So they went through the baby might be big conversation and offered an induction at 40w if I wanted it.
I declined as I know that late scans can be very inaccurate. The one I had with my second son at the same gestation over estimated his weight by over 2lbs. I said I didn't feel it was necessary to introduce the additional risks of intervention given there is a high margin of error with the scans. Thankfully the doctor seemed happy with that, given that they had informed me about all the potentially scary stuff. Truthfully I felt the whole conversation was more about covering their arses rather than they really thaught they had to intervene.
Later that day I had my appointment with my actual midwife and she really wasn't concerned. So that made me feel a lot firmer in my decision.
So I've got my post dates appointment booked for 40+3 with the vbac midwife at the hospital where they will do a full check and discuss induction. Hopefully it won't get to that. I'm going to continue to try and keep my wriggly baby in a good position and do lots of sitting on the ball, curb walking and hip opening exercises in the meantime.
40+3 today and headed in this evening for my induction. It was supposed to be tomorrow, but I’m still only 1cm dilated and my cervix is very high, so they want me in tonight to start softening up for tomorrow. I can’t believe I get to meet my son so soon!
