  • WAYDTGKU (BD/TI/IVF/FET/Benched/etc.):  BD and recently in home insemination

    WTO/TWW:  TWW

Timing/CS: ***warning*** TMI ahead: well, according to my ovulation tests I ovulated yesterday. I didn't get as much action in this fertile window as I would have liked but hubby hasn't been feeling well. We BD Saturday morning and yesterday hubby was feeling pressure since it was my O day and having trouble performing so we decided to try the at home insemination method. I had bought tools for just this purpose because we had some pressure/not being able to perform issues a few months ago but this was the first time we broke it out. Not sure how it's easier to go in a cup but whatever. The process was fairly straightforward although I'm worried I didn't get the syringe far enough up there lol. I was feeling nervous I guess and at an angle trying to do it myself and I was tensing up no matter how hard I tried to relax so I just worry I didn't get it in far enough because when I plunged it, I felt it go in but then it seemed like a lot dribbled out 😫 so.. I guess we'll see! I am not super optimistic since we only BD once and did one possibly failed syringe method, but, both times were timed well according to ovulation so it's possible.

How are things going? Any questions?:  things are going. Just trying to stay in the game and stay optimistic. I recently read about the cup method where after BD or even at home insemination you place a menstrual cup in to hold in the sperm. Have any of you heard of this or tried it? I was thinking maybe that would've helped yesterday to catch what didn't seem to go in 😅

R/R: I'm enjoying the cool weather that calls for nights in cuddled on the couch with hot tea and cocoa and crockpot dinners. I'm about ready to start watching the Hallmark channel for the cheesy Christmas movies!

  • @peppyj9 I can't imagine a menstrual cup wouldn't hurt, but everything I've read suggests the sperm that are gonna make it to/through the cervix do so very quickly, and wouldn't be able to swim that far even if they were contained. That said, I do all kinds of things while TTC that aren't really backed by the science because I totally believe in the placebo effect! So if it makes you feel better, why not? If you try the at-home insemination again, maybe your husband could help so you can get a better angle and relax into it a bit more?

    WAYDTGKU (BD/TI/IVF/FET/Benched/etc.):  FET

WTO/TWW: OCPs, benched for the moment

How are things going? Any questions?:  Last week was rough. I'm just feeling very confused and disheartened. I'll drop the whole sordid story in a spoiler, but the TL;DR is that the FET was a total miss, we have no idea what happened, and all we can do is do the same things again and hope for different results (i.e. the definition of insanity).

TW: beta results, previous pregnancy, loss
My pregnancy test came back as 0.16, which means we didn't get any kind of implantation at all. We used the same protocol as in the spring, when we got great betas but then the embryo stopped developing at about 6.5 weeks. Both embryos were PGT-tested and euploid. My RE has recommended switching up protocols since we've now tried this one twice with no take-home baby, but she can't really defend that decision beyond just trying something new? Like, it's true my numbers were lower this cycle than in the spring because I only had one dominant follicle instead of multiple, but I still met every metric they'd like to see (estrogen above 200, lining >7mm) before the trigger. And she's also said if we move to a fully controlled cycle she's not going to try to get my numbers as high as the first time...just to the same metrics listed above that apparently didn't work. So what's the difference, other than the super painful progesterone injections?

We're holding my cycle for a few days so we can sneak in one more FET attempt in mid-December. Initial cycle visit will be Monday 11/25. The plan right now is to start a modified natural cycle, hope for multiple lead follicles and strong numbers, and cancel if there's just one. I still believe my body can do this! Because it has! I'm telling myself that if we try two more natural starts with no better results, then I'll accept we need to try controlled.

R/R: I need to get better at cozying up to cold weather and short days. I like them in theory, but in practice I seem to just end up with seasonal affective disorder. Any recs on how to stay snuggly and content, I'm all ears!

  • @aisleofviewtwo I'm sad to hear you've had such a rough week. It must be so frustrating to not have any answers as to why it didn't work when everything looked good. I agree that based on what your RE is saying that a controlled attempt doesn't make much sense if it's going to yield the same numbers as doing it naturally? I'm sure she's just trying to grasp at something new to try to help you get your take home baby. Wishing you so much stickiness next month 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 in the meantime hopefully you can relax into holiday season, if you celebrate. Do you have family close by to do Thanksgiving with? We don't so we always end up at a friend's house with a couple other families that don't have local family. I'm not sure what recs I could give to help you lean into snuggly season. I think part of why I enjoy it so much is I'm lazy at heart and don't really want to be out and about anyway. I do find that having my house decorated for Christmas helps set the vibe. I also enjoy baking and so having homemade treats baking or ready to eat adds to my joy. A pile of good books to read, a list of movies to watch. In general just embracing that winter is a natural time to slow down. It's cold outside, stay in, rest and rejuvenate for the coming Spring. Also, if you need it you can buy a light therapy light to mimic the sun. t's a useful tool for SAD.
  • I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out  @aisleofviewtwo. ❤️

    WAYDTGKU (BD/TI/IVF/FET/Benched/etc.):  TI

    WTO/TWW:   TWW?

Timing/CS:   My cervical mucus is pointing to ovulation but my LH levels haven't risen yet. Usually they're in sync with each other. At least we managed to make time for each other last night, so hopefully our timing will work out this time.

How are things going? Any questions?:  I feel sick again which is funny with the advice about people feeling flu like with ovulation. But my son is sick again too. I think we actually just keep getting sick. 🤦😂

I'm having a terrible time keeping up with exercising. Got into a bit of a new schedule at work and it's gotten tough to find the time to work out.

R/R: Rave: The weather has been so nice by us. Just really lovely fall days.

  • @ferret22 🤞🏻🤞🏻 your timing worked out. I had never heard of ovulation flu but it's also that time of year so it's hard to pinpoint. Either way, I hope you and your son feel better. Nice you're having good weather! I love Fall weather
  • @peppyj9 Those are all great ideas! I have not had the energy or focus to think about decorating for the holidays (though I love them), but I did finally bake the chocolate chip cookie cake I've been craving for weeks now and it totally made my weekend <3

@ferret22 Figuring out when to exercise after getting a new work schedule is so tough! It took me nearly six after switching positions earlier this year to get back into a good routine. Not sure what your field is or what your days look like, but the best advice I took was (1) to block off consistent times in my calendar with some wiggle room so that nobody books a meeting right before or after my workout; and (2) ease into it, so maybe the first day all you do is show up to the gym at the time you've specified without having to worry did I pack all the right things, the next time you get changed and just do a warm-up or light stretching, so no big deal if you run out of time to shower after, and just slowly add things until it's a natural part of your day. I hope you're able to find a good rhythm, I know my mood and energy levels both improved once I did.
  • That's a good idea @aisleofviewtwo. I should totally block off some calendar time during my "lunch". I get really thrown off when I'm sick too, so I've been struggling to get back to it.
