RhoGAM shot? rh- mom with an rh- fetus

I’m scheduled on November 27th to get the rhoGAM shot… I have ab- blood and according to the genetic test/gender reveal test my baby has rh- blood and she is a girl. Is this test actually necessary and if it isn’t is there a risk. I’ve reacted horribly to the Covid vaccines. I’m lacking in trust sometimes when it comes to the medical field. My father had rh- blood and my mother was rh+. I was born with jaundice and cradle cap which are just minor issues I sense had something to do with what the roGAM shot was intended for and my 3rd sibling was born premature at 24 weeks and has the severest form of cerebral palsy one could ever imagine. Why do only rh- women get RhoGAM shots? I Supposably don’t need it but I’m scheduled for it. I just have a lot of questions about rhogam and many more ppl need it then we think.

  • I had it with my last pregnancy. I can't speak to your parents' experience, only my own, but the idea is that because you have "incompatible" blood with your baby, having the shot keeps your body from creating antibodies that would attack your baby (if your blood and baby's blood come in contact with one another).

I'm glad I had it. I believe only women get it because we are the ones who would be able to have our blood be in contact with our baby's blood, as we are the ones who are pregnant.

  • I’m Rh- and with my first he was Rh+, so got the shot during pregnancy and after he was born. I’ll be getting it again this time with my little girl. We don’t know the blood type though, how did you get that result?
Mixing of the blood could make baby sick in the most extreme layman’s terms, so they give it to avoid that. If I were you I would ask my doctor if I had to get it. It’s not really the same as a vaccine though. Evidence based birth has some great articles on it!
