Hiding early pregnancy from colleagues old & new

Hi all, I just found out I'm pregnant (6 weeks) and I'm so thrilled, but I have two small concerns - first it's my last week at my old job and we have leaving drinks coming up. Any tips for a (boozy!) social event where I don't get want to tell anyone that I'm pregnant?? I have worked with this group for years and there is definitely an expectation that this will be a "big night" - eek lol. I do have a toddler at home so that can maybe be part of my excuse to abstain.

Second I'm not sure how early to communicate the news to my new boss. I start next week and again there is a team social which is an in person get together over a few days, including a happy hour. In some ways my life is easier to just be upfront, especially as I have many concerns about my eligibility for maternity leave given I was pregnant before the Short term disability I surance started, and the sooner I can find out what that means for me the better. On the other hand I don't know how I'd feel if I lost the pregnancy and had to share that with new people that I just met, if I tell them too early and then something happened.

Ok on reflection maybe they aren't such small things ..

I’m also attending some social events where everyone will be drinking. I plan on drinking Shirley Temples all night so I can still have a “fun” drink. One of my coworkers already knows I’m pregnant and will be ordering my drinks for me so I don’t have to, maybe you have someone who can do the same for you?

If you want to get your questions about maternity leave and short term disability answered without telling your boss yet, you could just ask for the details of when all your benefits kick in. Usually for those it’s once you’ve worked there for X number of months, so you might still be able to use them even if you are pregnant before starting since you aren’t very far along yet.

I hardly drank before I was pregnant. It’s nobody’s business. But also seltzer and lemon or lime looks like a “drink” and should be tolerable with nausea.
