April 2025 Babies

Advice prepping for baby

Someone else posted asking what everyone is doing to prep for the arrival of baby. I realized I've done nothing because I don't know what to do.
My husband and I are currently in an apartment, but we're renovating a house.
We don't know of the house will be move in ready when baby is born. We could be still in the apartment, or if the house is close to being done we might even be in my parents basement because it won't make sense to lease for another year, or we might be in the house.
Advice to how to start prepping when I don't even know where I'll be?

I will also be moving soon after my delivery (after 3 months), so I am planning to buy portable crib/bassinet instead of buying a wooden one. I will set up my nursery with a nice crib only at my new place. On same note, thinking of getting minimal things that are enough for those first few months, instead of buying them now and having to move (e.g. high chair, which I won’t need until the baby is 6-months, etc.).

  • Here are some non-nursery prepping things I’m trying to get done first (hopefully it’s helpful):

-Making a plan to get our pets into the vet about a month before baby is due

-Looking into what breast pump my insurance covers (also just making sure all of our insurance questions get asked now)

-Going through our stuff to see if there’s anything we don’t need (in order to make room for future baby things)

-Making a plan for what cleaning/meal prep/household projects we want done between holidays and April
  • Newborns don’t need that much. I live in a one bedroom apt with my 15 month old and I’m pregnant now. We aren’t planning on moving since I don’t want the stress of moving and change. The newborn will have their bassinet, we have leftover stuff from our 15 month old. I recommend getting a hanging behind the door storage and adding whatever you need for your little one in there. I also have a bassinet that can hold storage underneath. I also don’t like to stress so I say just relax and everything will fall into place. Just have your diaper bag ready for the hospital if you’re planning on going. And a few washed baby clothes in newborn and 0-3. Diapers and bottles if you’re not breastfeeding. Also, rest now lol
  • Lurking and saw the insurance and pump comment. Look into aeroflow! I used them my first two pregnancies and it was so easy!
